Missed School Vaccinations?
HPV vaccination is a safe and reliable way to protect young people from a range of HPV related cancers and diseases. Maintaining high uptake of HPV vaccination will also help eliminate cervical cancer in Victoria by 2030.
The HPV vaccine protects against nine strains of HPV that cause:
- over 90% of cervical cancers
- over 95 % of HPV-related cancers.
The vaccine also protects against another two types of HPV which cause 90% of genital warts.
Victorian students in Year 7 (or aged 12-13) receive the HPV vaccine and is free for all Victorian young people under the National Immunisation Program.
HPV vaccination is provided as a two-dose course with doses given six months apart. Adolescents need two doses to be considered up to date.
Ensuring young people under age 20 are up-to-date with their immunisations according to the National Immunisation Schedule is relevant for Family Tax Benefit payments.
HPV catch-up vaccination is available to adolescents that may have missed one or both or their HPV vaccinations, due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
