Empowering the Next Generation

Welcome to the start of the 2023 School Year. We began the year by welcoming our students and staff in our opening assemblies, where we also acknowledged those who have undertaken to serve the college in leadership roles.

Developing leadership skills in our students is as important to their growth as it is to our future.  Our young people will shape the future, and it is vital that they are equipped with the skills and confidence to make a positive impact on their communities.

Leadership skills are essential in every aspect of life, from the classroom to the boardroom, and they can be honed and developed through student leadership roles. At Good News, our students have many opportunities to take on leadership roles, work on real-world projects, and engage in meaningful conversations with their peers and staff.

Students who undertake leadership roles or leadership activities learn how to tackle challenges, make informed decisions, and communicate effectively with others. They also learn valuable problem-solving skills, which are essential in today's fast-paced and rapidly changing world. Every student at Good News has the opportunity to be a leader regardless of whether they have an official role.

Service leadership offers a unique opportunity for young people to combine their spiritual beliefs with practical action. Through participating in service projects and volunteer work, students develop their leadership skills while making a positive impact on their community. These experiences can also strengthen their values and help them see the connections between their beliefs and their actions. By combining leadership development with a focus on service at Good News Lutheran College, we complement our strong academic program with a well-rounded education that prepares our students to be responsible, compassionate, and effective leaders in the future.

Our 2023 leaders have undertaken to:

  • Set an example that represents all of our students and make them proud
  • Value the opinion of every student who willingly shares with you
  • Act with grace, respect, integrity, and courage
  • Represent the student body and always advocate in their best interests
  • Recognise and celebrate the success of other students
  • Serve the Junior Years students without expecting anything in return
  • Continue to learn about leadership and improve in all you do
  • Always make time for any student who needs to talk to you

I congratulate each of them for accepting the great responsibility that comes with these roles and look forward to serving the college with them throughout the coming year.
