Year 6 Spotlight
A Spotlight on Year 6
With less then two weeks left of primary school, we say a fond farewell and the best of luck to our graduating cohort of 2022. Below are some student reflections of the year and their time at FPS.
Melbourne Zoo
On the 15th of August we went to the Melbourne Zoo to learn the anatomy and adaptations of wild animals. We got to participate in a workshop and explore different physical features of animal skeletons. We explored all the different areas of the zoo including, the reptile house, tigers cage and monkey house. We had a killer lunch next to the carousel. Afterwards, our group went to sea world and watched a seal show. These were unique experiences that we are grateful to have had.
Overall, it was amazing, and the weather was wild with a massive thunderstorm. We felt incredibly fortunate to go on this excursion with all of Year 6.

The Immigration Museum
On Tuesday the 12th of July we took a train to the city! It was a new experience for school. We got off the train at Flinders Street Station to walk to the Immigration Museum. On the way we saw many famous Melbourne buildings, the aquarium and many people walking. At the Immigration Museum we met up with some tour guides to do some activities such as looking at some artefacts and watching lots of documentaries about people immigrating. The excursion allowed us to learn more about why people immigrate and mass population in countries over the world.
Overall, it was a very fun, educational and memorable experience!

Interschool Sport
This year all Year 6s got the chance to participate in Interschool Sports for the first time. It was a really fun experience as we all got to play a couple rounds each week with our teams for different schools.
Summer sports options were softball, rounders, and tennis. The Winter sport options were netball, soccer, and footy.
Everyone was really encouraging to their peers and cheered on each other. We had many practice sessions before our actual matches to gain experience and learn new skills. Each teacher was assigned to one sport to coach. We worked well together and formed really good teams. It allowed us to build our sportsman ship and confidence.

Supporting the Junior Sports Day
This term, Year 6 has been planning and testing activities for the Foundation – Year 2 sports day. We have designed super fun games and obstacle courses for these year levels. The types of equipment we used were netball rings, rebound nets, parachutes, stilts, hopscotch, hurdles, soccer balls, netballs and so much more!
We have enjoyed creating new and reworking well known games. While designing activities we took a lot into consideration, making sure our activities were appealing to our specific year level audience. We also needed to make sure our activity was doable in the time frame and achievable for the majority of the cohort.
We hope that the Foundation – Year 2 students liked our games and enjoyed talking about them, just as much as we enjoyed inventing and presenting them to the lower grades of FPS.

To reflect on my FPS journey… I absolutely loved camp during Year 6, as it was my first camp. The teachers over the years have been supportive to me. I feel fortunate to have made so many great friends and to have become closer to some this year.

I very much enjoyed my time at Fairfield. All of my teachers have really supported my learning and the events we have been able to experience have been special for our Fairfield Community. I wish Fairfield Primary and all of the students luck and health for the future.
