Writing Narratives

Foundation students have been busy working through the writing process to publish stories. They began by using a topic to brainstorm ideas. Some children wrote about Halloween, incorporating many imaginative characters and the problems they could face while trick or treating. Others wrote about superheroes or a ‘Yes Day!’

Students began their stories by drafting their ideas using ideas from their plan, which focused on a beginning, middle and end. They then conferenced with their peers or teacher by sharing their story aloud. This was a good chance to give feedback towards their writing goals, or suggestions to add more detail to their writing. The next step was to edit their writing, checking for punctuation, lower case letters, and spelling.

Finally, they published their writing with illustrations to match!
