EOY Celebrations

On the 29th of November, we had two End Of Year Celebrations with our external service partners. We are very fortunate to have these wonderful providers support our young people.

VICSEG New Futures Celebration

Ed Boyle and Deng Tebir took nine students to the Melton Young Communities.  Cathy, Gabby, Rejoice, Ala'a, Emtinan, Charlotte, Fatuma, Jessica, and Karlie have been attending mentoring sessions every Monday after school during Semester 2. VICSEG's program 'Staying In the Education Loop' (SEIL), aims to support students with social connections and life skills.

"It was fun.  I enjoyed introducing myself and getting to know the others.  I also played table tennis."

--- Jessica, year 8

"It was fun and the cultural food was good. The games were so good!  I taught them how to play a Filipino game called 'Dr. Quack Quack' and 'sungka'."

--- Gabby, year 8

"It was fun. It was a new experience and I made new friends and got closer to my current friends. I liked trying the food - it was really good.  I thought the activities were really good."

--- Karlie, year 9

"It was really positive to see the students engaging with students from the other schools. The activities they ran were done really well, and there was a lot of mixing around for students to get to know each other. It was a good celebration of culture and people spoke about where they were from and their interests.  Props to the facilitators who did a great job overall."

--- Deng, Community Engagement Officer

Many thanks to Melissa Hallis who looks after the program and our students.

NRL and Melbourne Storm Celebration

I attended the NRL and Melbourne Storm's "School to Work" Program celebration at AAMI Park to represent our college.  This program is specially designed to support our Koorie students as they navigate school, future studies, and transitions.

We started off with a welcome from Alex Splitt, a smoking ceremony, and a wonderful performance from the group 'Bandoc Tati'.

The graduating class of 2022 were celebrated and treated to some goodie bags from the club sponsors, and everyone was elated to meet Eddie Betts.

Eddie shared a bit of his life story, inspiring us with anecdotes of how he grew up in WA and SA, got drafted into the AFL, and his rise to fame.  He also spoke about the challenges he faced and how he has surrounded himself with supportive family and friends to help him get through these hardships.   He empowered everyone in attendance that day, and graciously took photos after.

Many thanks to Lyndall Down for looking after our students and supporting their needs.
