2023 after school structure

Josip Loncaric

The upcoming year will give us exciting new opportunities to grow, and also present new challenges for us to face as a program.

At the time of writing, we have 151 students on our list, which is our highest number ever. With this number comes a new challenge for us as coaches and administrators to find the best fit for our after-school training sessions. At this stage, the after-school sessions will be slightly different in 2023 for term 1, with a distinct possibility of changing for term 2 and beyond.

Note - Strength and Conditioning sessions for students in year 10, 11, and 12 will be held before school, with days to be confirmed when we return to school. These are completely optional but highly recommended for those that are keen to play at a higher level.

Tuesday after school

Foundation Development Phase, Intermediate Development Phase, and Advanced Development Phase (Boys) training.

This allows us the flexibility of moving players up or down three different DP's so that they can maximise their learning and growth as footballers.

Wednesday after school -

Senior Development Phase Girls and Senior Development Phase Boys training.

This will be particularly important in term 1 so that we can have at least one group session to prepare for Premier League Cup matches, which will commence on February 15th at Keilor Downs College.

It also allows any of our year 11 and 12 VET and VCE Vocational Major (formerly VCAL) to train with the group.

Thursday after school -

Foundation Development Phase, Intermediate Phase, and Advanced Development Phase (Girls) training.

This allows us the flexibility of moving players up or down three different DP's so that they can maximise their learning and growth as footballers.

Friday before and after school -

Junior goalkeeper sessions are to commence at 7:30am with Toan, our junior goalkeeper coach.

Senior goalkeeper sessions are to commence at 3:10 pm with Adam, our senior goalkeeper coach. Again, the coaches will be communicating to ensure that they move the goalkeepers up or down, based on their current level.

Remember that our program is about releasing your child to self-regulate and set their own goals. Children may not see things from a long-term perspective in the same way that adults see them, and the expectations of a child are not compatible with the expectations of most parents. Regardless of what phase your child starts in, the challenge is for them to put in the effort, take on the feedback and truly fall in love with the process because that is far more important than a short-term outcome.
