Sports Update

Dioceses Swimming Carnival Gunnedah

Congratulations to the St Joseph’s School Glen Innes Swim Team who competed in The Armidale Diocesan Swimming Carnival in Gunnedah last Friday. As a school committed to excellence and testing ourselves at the next level in our studies, in the sporting arena and on the stage; our swimmers excelled themselves with some exciting Personal Best (PB) times. As I explained to the children at Assembly this week, if it takes 50 seconds to swim 50 metres then a swimmer is swimming at a speed of 1 metre every second. So at a rough guess if a swimmer beats their previous best time by 1 second they have actually swum 1 metre faster! As an example, when Felicity Adams beats her previous time with a PB 10 seconds faster she has actually swum 10 metres faster! Wow!

Congratulations to all of our swim team members - Andy Watson, Felicity Adams, Zara Correy, Maggie Doust, Zoe McAllister, Harriet Van der Waal, Phoebe Newberry and Lucy van der Waal. I also offer public thanks to the big entourage of enthusiastic parents who supported our team on the day.

Preston Campbell Cup

Next Thursday, 9th March, students from Stages 2 and 3 will be participating in the Preston Campbell Cup held in Guyra. This is a non-competitive day, where both Tackle and League Tag will be played. Skills and drills sessions will also be provided by the NRL. A Compass Event has been sent out to parents of these students, with all the details included. We look forward to a great day out. Please contact the school if you cannot access this event on Compass and require a paper form.

Diocesan Winter Trials

We wish Ella Bruce, Abigail Pietsch, Paige Floyd, Danyela Bailey, Lachlan Grob and Fletcher Barratt the best of luck today as they participate in the Diocesan Winter Trials held in Tamworth for netball and rugby league. They will be competing for a place in the Diocesan team along with many students from around the Diocese. We know they will play hard and make themselves and the school very proud.
