Messages from our Librarian - Mrs Adams

It's been another busy fortnight in the library with lots of children reading, borrowing and discussing books. We are also seeing lots of children coming to the library at lunctimes to play games, read books or just sitting quietly.

Storybox Library

We are very fortunate at St Joseph's to have this wonderful reading platform called Storybox Library. It has a beautiful selection of books that are read. These books are quality literature and often feature on the Premier's Reading Challenge. They are read by actors, authors, illustrators  or ordinary people. Each year we pay a subscription for it so please make use of it. The app (Storybox Library) can be downloaded on an Ipad or suitable device. It is suitable for all our primary children. There are also activities which the children can do at home after the book has been read. Good for those rainy days or when you are wanting something to do.

Book Fair

For the next week we have Scholastic Book Fair running in the hall. This Fair is one of the 2 that we have during the year. This is a service where Scholastic provides books that you can purchase. It is a good price point and has lots of books which are suitable for our different stages. Below I will list the times that books can be purchased. If you can't get to the school send the money in with the children in an envelope and of course you are under no obligation to purchase books. Our school also gets a commission on books sold

Wednesday 8/03 - 2:00-2:30

Thursday 9/03 - 9:10-9:30, 2:00-2:30 and 3:30-4:00

Playgroup visits the Library

Yesterday I was so happy to welcome lots of little visitors and Mrs Core to the library. Some sat and listened while others engaged close up while I to read the book I Went Walking to the children and their carers. While preparing for this I couldn't help but be reminded of how important it is to read to our children from the earliest of ages. Studies show that children who are read to are exposed to so much vocabulary which helps to build their future literacy skills.

What We're Reading!

Around the staffroom table there is often a conversation about what we're reading. I love to read a book that is recommended by someone. So instead of keeping this to ourselves I thought I would these teacher's recommendations  just in case you needed a good read!

Miss McShane - Spare by Prince William and Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult

Mrs McCarthy - Hearstrong by Ellidy Pullin

Mrs McManus - Such a Fun Age by Kiley Reid

Mrs Parsons- The Post Birthday World by Lionel Shriver and Sam's Letters to Jennifer James

Mrs Baker - Lessons in Chemistry

Mrs Adams - Mad Honey by Jodi Picoult and All That's Left Unsaid by Tracey Lein

What are you reading?

This is what the Kinder Boys are Reading!

Lunchtimes in the library!

This week we are loving jigsaws, Rubik cubes, Uno and reading.

Please encourage all children to return and borrow each week. Pack their book the night before and they will never forget.

Happy reading

Cath Adams
