Foundation Miss Bennett

What an amazing start to the school year in Foundation!

All of the students have started off the school year with some super-star learning! This week we have started learning all about the letter 'M'. We met 'Milo the Monkey' who is having a birthday party and we had to create our own Milo and make a party hat for him to wear. We were all so happy to learn that after our learning of the letter 'M', Milla found a muffin, maltesers, a monkey on her yoghurt and had mayo in her sandwich- what a magical moment!!

Also in Maths, we have been learning about writing and identifying our numbers 0-10, especially writing them the correct way. To practice, the Foundation students watched the live zoo cams from The Sandiego Zoo, they had to count the animals in the enclosures and then write their answer on the whiteboard and 'chin it'. Super  job everyone.

Grade 1-2 Miss Hayes

In Grade 1/2 Hayes we have been busy getting back into our learning routine. We have been practicing how to turn and talk with our partner, how to work in small groups and the different levels our voices can be for various activities.

In Literacy we have been exploring CVC words (Consonant/Vowel/Consonant e.g. cat). We have been practicing how to sound out and blend these types of words together. During our Literacy sessions we have been rotating through different activities that involve making and writing these CVC words.

This week we started our new text based unit which is on the book 'Feathers for Phoebe'. So far we have learnt about fairy wrens and peafowl. We have discussed with a partner different questions which link to the terminology that we have learnt. These words have been:

- crest

- parading

- determined

- avoid

In Numeracy we have started exploring Shapes. This week we completed our introduction lessons and had lots of fun learning about 2D shapes.

We have begun working in reading groups and are very excited to start reading novels with our groups.

In maths, we have been learning about the importance of place value and how it helps us to do more complicated maths like multiplication, division and decimals.

For inquiry we have been learning about the Australian Government and the history of how it formed.

We are looking forward to our camp to Melbourne. We are excited to learn about all the exciting things we will get to do!
