Kitchen and Garden

We have loved working with the Grade 3’s in the Kitchen and Garden program this term.  It has been wonderful to see so many amazing creations and our garden flourish.

Here are some photos of our Indonesian feast that we cooked up today.  You can find the recipes below.

Next week (Wednesday 7th December) we have our last Kitchen and Garden classes for the year.  We have really appreciated all the help of our parent volunteers this term and we would be very grateful for some assistance next week.   We are making Gingerbread cookies and potting up succulents for the Grade 3’s to take home.

The following week (Wednesday 14th December we have our last Kitchen and Garden working bee.  This is when we really need you as we need help tidying up and getting our kitchen and garden spick and span for our classes next year.  The kettle will be on and a pot of chai brewing.  Please pop in at any stage during the day.  We would love to see you.

Here is next week's class timetable for those that are interested.

Garden

Last week students were sent on a bug discovery walk through the garden to find good and bad bugs. They found spiders, slater bugs (butcher boys, rollie pollys, woodlouse, pill bugs...so many names 😁), flies, hover flies, native bees, snails, slugs, worms, earwigs, soldier beetles and many more.

After we discussed why these are good or bad for our garden then they did some fabulous drawings of their favorite bug. They had such a great time and learnt to respect all creatures even when they may be eating our lettuce!

IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING LAST GARDEN SESSION!

Next week is our last class in garden and the students are making a decorative succulent pot to take home to remember their first year in the patch. Please remember to send your child to school with a pot/bowl/pan/dish/tea pot etc. to plant into. It is important to pre-drill a hole in the bottom prior to bringing it in on Wednesday. Unfortunalty I wont have any time to drill one on the day.
