Welcome to new staff

It has been wonderful to welcome a number of new staff members to our school community in 2022.

Miss Naomi Abascal - HSIE Teacher

I'm originally from the United States but came out to Australia to study abroad in October 2019 where I was placed at a school in Wagga Wagga. I finished my teaching practicum during Term 4 of 2019 and was offered a job at Wagga Wagga Christian College where I taught for two years before joining the NCS team. I was raised on the mission field, living in Costa Rica for 3 years and New Zealand for 7 years. During our time on the mission field, my family planted churches and started outreach organisations for at-risk youth. My entire family currently lives in the U.S. and hopefully will be able to come visit Australia once COVID restrictions dwindle. In my spare time I enjoy the beach, water sports, and spending time with family and friends. I'm looking forward to getting to know the students in my classroom and sharing my passion for HSIE with them.

Mrs Angela Johnstone - Years 5/6 Teacher

Before joining NCS, I taught Primary school in Scotland full-time for 11 years and then emigrated to Australia in 2001. Since then, I have been a casual teacher in both NSW and ACT schools. I joined NCS in 2016 as a casual teacher and loved being here in the caring Christian community that is so special at NCS. I look forward to collaborating with staff as part of a team and also working with the children to help them develop their full potential, both educationally and as Christians. In my spare time I enjoy photography, gardening, writing to friends and family abroad and playing online Scrabble and Sudoko.

Mrs Linda Adams - HSIE Teacher

Before I came to NCS I was working at the University of Newcastle where I have been a Doctor of Philosophy student for many years. This work for the university took me around NSW into schools to collect data and examine practices in quality teaching. I have enjoyed working at the university previously as a tutor and studio craftsperson. I have also been employed as a private tutor and a K-12 teacher at NAC and various other schools throughout the state. Throughout the years of my study, I have obtained a Certificate in Small Business, Diploma of Project Management, Certificate in Real Estate,  Bachelor of Education, Graduate Diploma, Masters, and PHD. I previously set up and ran a small business in Honey Production and have worked as a Musician and an artist. I have three sons who are all over 21 and are pursuing various trades and university studies. They are at Newcastle, Central Coast and on the South Coast. My husband works for Kiama Council.

In my spare time I enjoy serving others through my work in hospitality. I also love to write and have been working with professors of Engineering and Education on research projects and on writing articles for journals in their respective fields. I am an active part of a small Christian congregation at St Georges Basin and I enjoy my time within that community.

I am passionate about the learning of young people and about being able to serve others through my teaching. I have always taught Sunday School and run youth and bible study groups at my previous schools. This verse has stayed with me throughout my life and it is one that I have been blessed enough to practice everyday. 'As each one has received a special gift, employ it in serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.' 1 Peter 4:10

Mr Luke Thorn - Year 2 Teacher

Before I started working at NCS, I worked as a Teachers Aide from 2018-2019 while studying Primary Teaching. I then worked as a casual teacher from 2020-2021 after graduating from the University of Wollongong.

I grew up on the North Coast with my five siblings. We spent a lot of time outdoors, playing sports and going to the beach together. In 2015, I moved to Wollongong to study Primary Education and also began attending Wollongong Baptist Church. It was there that I met my wife Annie and we got married at the end of 2017. Annie is a Prep teacher, currently working at Calderwood Christian School.

In my spare time, I enjoy any form of team sport, board games, serving at church, and catching up on the latest StarWars or Marvel TV show/movie. My wife and I enjoy camping, bushwalks and spending time with friends.

I am excited about being at Nowra Christian School because it blesses me with an opportunity to teach from a Christian Worldview that glorifies God, alongside exceptional staff and families. I look forward to getting to know the students and their families further as I begin this year! Please say hello when you see me! I'm always keen to have a chat.

Mrs Erin Morris - Year 3 Teacher

I have been teaching since 2006. I have spent most of my teaching career at Northcross Christian School in Sydney. I had the pleasure of taking on a variety of roles during my time there, including classroom teacher, RFF teacher and learning support teacher. I really enjoyed all of these roles.

I live on a small farm with my husband and two children. I love nature and the outdoors. One of my favourite things to do is to spend time in the garden. My family has been enjoying harvesting all the delicious summer fruits and vegetables from our garden at this time of year. I’m grateful for the opportunity to be a part of the Christian community at Nowra Christian School and I look forward to getting to know the many people who make up this wonderful community.

Mrs Rachel Graham - Science Teacher

I have had a long association with NCS. First as a student, attending from Year 4 until Year 10, which was when it finished back then. My parents moved our family to Nowra so that my sisters and I could attend NCCS. Then I returned to NCS to teach Science and Maths in 2004 and taught until the end of 2005, before my first child Travis was born. I have also been a parent at NCS since 2012. At the beginning of 2020, I took on the Laboratory Assistant role supporting the Science Department. This year, I will be teaching Science again. I'm looking forward to serving God by teaching the students more about the incredible world that He has made; and to help them grow in their knowledge of, and love for, Him.
