When is your birthday?

The students contributed to a Learning Space 1 Senior Pictograph display of their birthdays, and interpreted the data produced from this. A pictograph is a way to represent data using images. Each image in the pictograph represents a certain number of things. Below are some of their discoveries.

I noticed that there are a lot of November birthdays!                 - Joshua

I discovered that there are a lot more birthdays in autumn.     - Prue

January and September have the same number of birthdays. - Luke

Growing with Gratitude!

Noticing and appreciating the things we do have, not the things we don’t.

The Resilience Project

As part of our focus for SWELL week, the students inquired into the following questions:

What does it mean to have gratitude?

What are we most grateful for in our life?

They shared their understanding on a Gratitude Wall display. Our school is currently teaching students how to protect their mental wellbeing and how to be successful and happier in school and life. We do this by teaching skills based on gratitude, kindness, positive reflection, empathy, mindfulness and serving others, resulting in greater resilience and happiness. Further we are teaching our students skills to overcome adversity and challenges, as well as teaching them to be good citizens.

Seesaw - Where learning happens!

This week the Learning Space 1 Senior community was introduced to a digital app called Seesaw. The app allows students, teachers, and parents or guardians to complete and share learning experiences. Students can also use Seesaw to show what they know using various media, from photos and videos to drawings, text, links, and PDFs.

I like how it's an app for our Home Group, and our parents can see what we have been doing.                                                                                                                                    - Rehan

I like how instead of our parents emailing our teachers, they can contact our teachers on Seesaw.                                                                                                                                - Bianca

The Seesaw app is good for our parents. They can watch our learning anytime they want.

                                                                                                                                                  - Ella

SWELL WEEK

The children have enjoyed a variety of activities for SWELL week. Our first week at school focuses on the wellbeing of our students, the teachers getting to know their students, establishing routines and expectations and building relationships. We have had the Circus Challenge incursion this week with the children participating in a circus skills workshop on Wednesday and Thursday this week and a whole school Circus show on Thursday. The children have had huge smiles on their face and have had lots of fun!!

P.E. NEWS

Welcome back!!

We are looking forward to another exciting and busy year in PE. Below is an outline of our sporting events for Term 1.

SENIORS

GRADE 5/6 INTERSCHOOL SPORTS & GRADE 3/4 SPORTS ROTATIONS

Interschool Sports for Grade 5/6, unfortunately, may not happen this term. We have been instructed to not take students on any avoidable excursions for the first 4 weeks of term. The District will then reassess the situation in Week 5 or 6. Parents will be notified via the newsletter and Operoo when interschool sports will commence.

In preparation for Interschool Sports, the Grade 5/6 students are choosing their sports from the following: soccer, volleystars, tball, cricket and netball. For the first half of Term 1 each Learning Space will go out for a 35 minute session on Fridays, to familiarise themselves with the summer interschool sports. Once Interschool Sports begins, Fridays that we do not have Interschool Sports, the Grade 5/6 will train in their teams from 9.00 – 10.00 and the Grade 3/4 students will be involved in sporting rotations so that they become familiar with the sports they will be competing in when they are in Grade 5/6.

Once we have definite dates for Interschool Sports, permission forms will be posted on Operoo for the Grade 5/6s involved in Interschool Sports. We ask that parents check that student medical profiles are up to date and give permission for their child to participate in Interschool Sports.

We hope the Seniors have fun!

JUNIOR GOLF CLINICS

We have been lucky enough to receive Sporting Schools Funding again for the Juniors this term. We have booked in golf for later in Term 1. Parents will be provided with further information closer to the date via the newsletter and Operoo.

We hope our Juniors have fun!

TWILIGHT SPORTS

Please mark Thursday March 10th (5.30 – 8.00) into your diaries. This is the date for our Twilight Sports this year. Which House will win our Twilight Sports this year? Which House will win the Spirit Award. Students will soon begin to meet in their Houses to practise their cheering. Don’t forget for the sports night your child will need to wear a tshirt the colour of their House and their sports shorts, skirts or tracksuit and runners:

MacKillop              yellow

Patrick                    green

Bosco                     red

Teresa                    blue

Foundation parents you will shortly be notified of your child’s House so you can organise a coloured tshirt. Home Group teachers will also have a list of their students and their Houses in case students have forgotten. If you have an older child, your younger child will be in the same House.

SFS CROSS COUNTRY

On the last day of term, which will be Friday 8th April, the whole school will be involved in our traditional Cross Country which will be held at SFS this year. We will be looking for the winning House as well as winners for each level in the Juniors and age group in the Seniors. We will also be identifying Senior students who qualify to attend District Cross Country in Term 2.
