Welcome to all new and returning families.  It was lovely to greet our new families as part of orientation. A huge thanks must go to our staff and student leaders who coordinated the activities. I have received a lot of positive feedback from the community, with many making special mention of the leadership traits shown by our student leadership team. Their inclusive manner ensured that our newest students felt comfortable.

COVID continues to feature in our planning. Current close contact definitions have seen some changes occur in residence and in the day program. This is an evolving space and even as I type this, I am conscious that the restrictions and guidelines are forever changing.  I can assure you that we will try our hardest to make sure that your children still have opportunities that they have experienced in the past. It means that some of those opportunities / events may look a little different. I will always keep families informed. I just ask that you keep your contact details up to date and monitor your email inboxes to make sure that you are receiving information in a timely manner.

The school ball has definitely been a topic of conversation. Historically, our ball has always been held in Term 1. Last year it was held in Term 3.  There has been significant debate and discussion around bringing the ball forward to Term 1 this year to alleviate a concern that if we wait until later in the year, we run the risk of it not occurring. Thank you to those families who contacted me directly to share their views on the topic. After much conversation, the entire student body was provided with an opportunity to vote anonymously. The result was very tight with an almost divided school community. None the less, the commitment I made was to the majority. The date of the 5th August has now been set. In compliance with directives from the Department of Education that prevent schools from hosting balls on site, the event will be at AJAR Restaurant. We have been informed that, in accordance with COVID mandates, students over the age of 16 will need to show proof of vaccination to attend this venue. Ball tickets will be sold at school late next term. Costings and other details will be released closer to the time.

Finally, I’d like to thank those who supported our community during the recent bushfires and pass my condolences to those who suffered loss. Year 12 student Zach Miller lost his home to the fire. With the permission of Zach’s parents, we are hosting a fundraiser for Zach and his family. More to come out about this soon.
