Principal's Report

24th April 2020

Welcome to our first ever edition of the “Learning from Home’ Newsletter! As you would be aware, life as we know it has certainly changed a great deal for all of us, including how the children ‘attend’ school. Never the less, I felt that it was important to continue sharing school community news via our school newsletter because there are important items to share.

Learning from Home

I hope that all members of the Wheelers Hill Primary School community are well. These really are unprecedented times and it is my hope that things will return to normal as soon as possible. As everyone would be aware the Stage 3 Restrictions are having a positive impact and are flattening the curve, which in turns means we can get back to school as soon as possible.

By now learning and working from home has become our ‘new normal’ which is an even greater challenge for most families as the children require attention and support whilst mum and /or dad are also working from home.

A sincere thank you to everyone for all of your efforts as they do not go unnoticed and, once again, hopefully life will return to normal shortly.

A very big thank you as well to the staff and teachers at Wheelers Hill who in a short number of weeks have completely changed the way they work and deliver our learning programs. We have never done this before and like you so are still learning along the way. So please be patient and flexible with us and we will continue to keep you updated very step of the way.

Year 6-7 Transition

Even though we are learning from home many of the regular events that happen each year have not been cancelled or postponed, such as the Year 6-7 transition process. Next week Year 6 parents will receive in the mail an application form for government secondary schools 2021. Please check your mailbox for this. More information will also be posted on Compass. Please contact the Year 6-7 transition coordinator Erin Fullerton if you have any questions after your receive the forms and information.

New Playground

Our new playground installation has been installed this week and is just about complete.

Unfortunately it will be closed into the near future due to Coronavirus restrictions but it something wonderful to look forward to when we all come back to school.

Prep 2021 Enrolments

Prep enrolments for 2021 are still open. Information about enrolment and forms are available via our school website under the enrolment tab. You are welcome to scan and email the Enrolment Form and required documentation to: wheelers.hill.ps@education.vic.gov.au.

Alternatively you are also welcome to put the form and associated documents in a envelope and put them in the letter box at the front of the school.

If you are current family at school and are enrolling a Prep student for next year, I encourage you to do ASAP so we can confirm our numbers.

Due to the Coronavirus we have cancelled all school tours. We will open more tours as soon as we can.

Book and Personal Items Collection

There are still a few families at the school who have not collected student books, pencil cases and personal possessions. If this is the case with your family and you wish to collect these items from school, please let your teacher know who will contact on of our leadership staff and a time can be arranged to pick them up.

Anzac Day

Anzac Day is tomorrow the 25th March. Our school usually commemorates ANZAC Day with an assembly run but the SRC and by our Year 6 students leaders attending the Monash RSL service at the cenotaph in Glen Waverley. As these events won't happen this year you may wish to do something with your children tomorrow such as makign ANZAC biscuits (see Ms Richard's newsletter article) or if you are feeling creative make an ANZAC lantern in the link below.

Also the following is a great book to read or to listen too with your children.
