Stephanie Alexander Kitchen

Sonia Nista - Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Specialist

Our last menu for the term is now complete. It was terrific to see how receptive the students are to trying new flavour combinations. For the past 3 weeks, our menu has consisted of the following:

  • Potato, rosemary and rocket wood fired pizza
  • Mixed herb pesto
  • Pumpkin and chickpea leafy salad
  • Fresh juice or fruit tea

The children are always excited to make pizza, and overall most of the students loved making a pizza one with a more seasonal topping. We also had success making a gluten free pizza base. Thank you Tracey Lees for the easy but yummy recipe!

We are now at the half way mark through the year, I’ve taken a little time over the past week or so to reflect on the progress our students have made so far. Particularly the Year 3 and 4 classes who in term 1 had little or no kitchen experience, but are now more confident in all aspects of food preparation and cooking. They are also increasingly more aware of what is growing in our garden, therefore gained an understanding of the seasonal produce and why we cook seasonal recipes.

I must once again say a very big thank you to all of our wonderful volunteers in both the kitchen and garden. I encourage any other parents, grandparents, relatives or family friends who may be interested in volunteering, to come in and see Alba or myself. It really is a lot of fun!

Have a wonderful school holiday break.
