News from Year 2

Year 2 Teacher
2S have been intrigued by the noise and movement around our classroom coming from the new classroom building site. So we used this as a ‘seed’ for our writing and went out to investigate. These writing pieces show how our students used this real-life writing prompt to write recounts, expositions and narratives. As the students recommend: come and have a look, you might be surprised by what you see, hear or even smell!
The building is at school.
It is very NOISY!
I see the man is on the roof… and he climbed on the ladder.
Then I saw a sign, DANGER and WARNING
Then the man is building with a hammer,
Cooper loves hammers.

Come to Kingswood now!
Come to Kingswood because a new portable is being built! You'll see builders building and we saw this very cool thing happening on Wednesday morning. If you want to see, go to Kingswood Primary and have a look where the senior playground used to be. The builders might let you have a little snoop, so what are you waiting for, get your kids to come now!

New classrooms
Today, 9 workers are working at Kingswood to make 2 new classrooms for the Grade 3/4s and I am so excited to be in Grade 3 next year, but it is hurting my ears in class! Next year we will have 2 more classrooms in our school YAY!
I wanted to know what tools they were using at the building site. I saw lots of materials, tools and some other things too that you may not want to hear…!
I can smell dust and see smokey sparks that sometimes make me sneeze when I’m outside.
It’s very frustrating but it’s exciting to watch them build the new classrooms and learn something from what they were doing!

The construction site
Today, 2S went outside KPS to look at a construction site to have an idea for writing. I did a great recount of what I saw.
I also saw a man cut wood with a saw.
It made a funny noise and a funny smell. It smelled like burnt trees, but luckily it was surrounded by a green fence so it did not smell as bad.
After, I heard somebody stomping. I looked up and saw a workman on our roof! !He was pulling a thick orange rope and throwing it down.
Then we went back inside our classroom and I saw another workman inside pulling the orange rope that the man on the roof threw down.
I felt proud for the workmen because they work so hard to make us a new classroom. I wish they had a big break to gain energy.

Construction site.
On Wednesday the 22nd of November, the workers were building a new classroom next to the Ned zone for next year.
Come and look at the new classroom because it looks so good. It looks so cool when it’s being built because you can see the builders hammers and saws and you can see inside the new classroom.
It’s going to get a lot of use next year by the Grade 3s. I love it being built and everyone getting to look at it.
It has a lot of new things including a new roof, paint on the walls, a door and it will get new furniture when the inside is finished
It looks so good come and see!

NEW CLASSROOM!!!!
In the morning, there were builders building a new classroom next to the volleyball courts in a big construction site. They are building these rooms so that extra classes have a class to work in next year and it's making progress.
We heard metal clanging, footsteps on the roof, drilling and sawing.
We smelled smoke from sparks, fresh wood and wood polish.
We saw drilling, cutting, hammering, a tradie packing up.
It was cool and a bit loud but I can't wait for it to be finished.

The Mystery Classroom
“CLUNK” “All done!” shouted the tradesman. The sun was shining on the classroom as if there was a spotlight on it. Once the classroom was all tidy the new kids walked in. One child at the front of the class took notice that there was no floor and tried to stop everyone. Nobody at the back realised and they all fell in except one lucky boy who didn't fall in. His cheeks were burning like asphalt in February. He was haunted that others might think he pushed everyone in. That is exactly what happened.
