Director of Missions

Marian College was fortunate enough to be on the front page of the National Marist Magazine at the end of last term. The Regional Director of NSW/ACT John Robinson commended the efforts of Marian in his recent visit. In reflection of our mission work for 2019 he agreed that we are definitely a school that is on fire in service.

Mission Moments – Carevan Heroes

There are many people within the Marian Community that go above and beyond with their contributions to this great cause. Marian has been involved with the kids cooking and caring program for quite a while now. This has been supported by teachers who do an outstanding job by ensuring the program runs. Teachers that I have mentioned many times before such as Mrs Shannon, Ms Davidson, Ms McMahon and of course Sue Hone are imperative to the success of it all at Marian.

We have been able to be a part of the full cycle where our recycled water bottles we collect fund the food we create and then we have various participants from staff and students who help with the meals at night time. So when it was time to help out with their main fundraiser for the year we did not hesitate.

Students were asked to respond to the challenge of selling tickets down the main street. At such a busy time of the year and time being a factor, it was left to the Yr 11 Work studies class who decided it was a great way to work on their communication in the workplace skills. Four boys marched down the main street and did an amazing job on a hot summers day raising over $300 between them in the hour and half.

Dennis Flores, Roko Qalo, Ben Kadavi and Maninder Singh were also supported by Maria Sergi, Isabella Sleiman and Eliza Peruzzi who were able to add an additional $100 with their efforts.

They contributed to this charity with enthusiasm and effort. It was extremely pleasing to see such an outstanding energy to achieve for the cause. Thank you to these students who were once again showing us the ‘Marian Way’.

Griffith Art Gallery – Year 12 Visit

Last Friday I was fortunate enough to take the Yr 12 students down to the gallery to visit the recent exhibition.

“It is a very rare thing to view original artworks by the Great Masters outside of Europe, it’s an even rarer thing to see those works in a regional gallery.

People in Griffith are in for a unique treat when Griffith Regional Art Gallery presents Beguile – Original European Masters: from the 17th - 20th Century.

Featuring original prints created by some of the greatest European masters Beguile is a collection of 21 authenticated works including etchings, lithographs and serigraphs.”

We were invited down and given a floor talk by Curator Ray Wholohan exploring the lives and legacies of key artists in the exhibition. I wanted to mention this in this newsletter to highlight what a fantastic experience it was for our students and I. Ray’s knowledge in art history is definitely something to witness and I strongly encourage any art enthusiasts to utilise this facility and people like Ray as much as they possibly can as I assure you we will in the near future.

Thanks Ray and thank you to everyone who was involved in organising such a wonderful exhibition to our beautiful town. We were surely blessed with this one.

Up Coming Events

Two and half more weeks until we take off to Samoa for the Marian Immersion program. We held our last parent information night on Tuesday and confirmed Itinerary for our trip. I will be placing this in our next issue just before we leave. I will also be hoping to run a blog whilst on the journey so people at home can follow our experience. Stay tuned…

My prayers and thoughts are still with Yr 12 as they complete their HSC and I hope they finish with the confidence and energy that they approached it with.

Remember feedback is always welcome so get in touch if you have any questions, queries or suggestions around how we can continue to enhance your Marian through Mission.

Kind Regards

Heath Neville
