All Saints Day - November 1

Since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders.....

and let us run the race with perseverance.

- Hebrew 12:1

There is a saint for just about every occasion.  There is a patron saint of the internet (St Isidore).  There is one for lost objects (St Anthony) and one for lost causes (St Jude).  It is possible to wonder why St Stephen is the patron of those who suffer headaches until you realise that he was the first martyr and was stoned to death.  It is possible to smile at such lists, but at least they remind us that those who have been canonised by the church are as human as we are and were as involved in the struggle and mystery of human life.  Everyone of the church's canonised saints was a sinner, some notoriously so.  At least we have that in common with them.  Hopefully, we will also  share the openness they had to the way in which God might be tugging them in a particular direction.  Of recent years, the Church has canonised a large number of new saints.  This is a reminder that sancity is not such a rare phenomenon.  It is the vocation of every Christian, even if that fact is never oficially recognised.  Sainthood is the life to which we are all called.

The College held a liturgy for All Saints Day and All Souls Day today. My thanks to all the House Leaders, students and staff  who were involved and to College Liturgy Coordinator, Mrs Aventi for putting it  all together.

Dear Parents, Students and Friends,

I am pleased to announce that Mrs Lora Segrave and Mr Damien Herb have been successful in their applications for the permanent positions as Co-Assistant Principals of Marian Catholic College. Both of them are outstanding young leaders and not only this year but in their previous leadership roles, have demonstrated that they are worthy of these senior positions at the College. Marian Catholic College  is fortunate to have such talent to lead the community. Congratulations Lora and Damien.

This week, our senior students are on Retreat. Year 12 Coordinator Mrs Star, Director of Mission, Mr Neville and Homeroom teachers, have put together a program which will personally and collectively challenge the group to make real our College motto, The Way, The Truth, The Life.  With them will be retreat team, Burn Bright. The Year 12 Leadership Development Program they present will equip students with the necessary skills to be effective leaders, understand their influence, build resilience and begin to shape their values. Marian Chaplain, Fr Paul will also be joining the group to say Mass and spend some valuable time with them. The group stay at Warrambui Retreat and Conference Centre, Murrumbateman and also use the time, being so close to Canberra, to meet with leaders from other faiths to support learning for the HSC subject, Studies of Religion. A report from the group will be published upon their return. I ask that you keep them in your prayers during this time.

Our new student Leadership Team are providing the lunchtime fun on Melbourne Cup Day! The students use the national event to raise funds for their chosen charities. These fundraising events help build school spirit and morale and provide great memories for everyone involved, particularly our Year 7 students who will enjoy the carnival atmosphere provided by our student leaders.

Peace and Best wishes
