Middle School Excursion - Dubbo Zoo, Siding Springs Observatory and Lake Burrendong

On Monday 21 August,  Middle School left on an excursion to Dubbo and Lake Burrendong.

After a long time of driving we finally reached Siding Springs. Then we got split into three groups. We then rotated around three activities. One of the activities was a 3D film about stars and how they worked. Another activity was looking at different types and sizes of telescopes. The last activity we did was looking at the biggest telescope in Australia. We then had lunch and got back on the bus.

We then drove a little longer until we reached Dubbo Zoo. We met our tour guides and got settled into our tents. That night we went on two night tours then had dinner and went to bed. In the morning we set off nearly to see other parts of the zoo and went to the gift shop.

We then left for Lake Burrendong.  When we reached Lake Burrendong and got a introduction of what we will be doing for the next three days. We got settled into our lodges and then set out to do our activities. The first group activities were archery and grass skiing. In archery we got into four groups and practiced shooting at the targets. After archery we went grass skiing and got into pairs.  We put on special grass skiing boots and skied down the hill.

The next day we got up and had a delicious breakfast then got into our activities. We did some team work activities and rock climbing. We got into groups and did lots of different team work activities. After the activities we got harnessed up for rock climbing.

The next day we set off for bush crafts and high ropes. In bush crafts we made boomerangs.   While they were drying we did the low rope activity. The next day we had a blast doing the flying fox and high ropes.  The flying fox was scary going up the tall ladder but it was an awesome ride  down.  At high ropes we got into pairs,  got harnessed up and put our helmets on ready to do the awesome course.

We had our dinner and set off for a night time camp fire. On the way we picked up some sticks to make our damper.  When we arrived at the camp fire, we lit four fires and cooked our damper. When we got to our lodges we went to bed. The next day we packed up our bags and made sure our lodges were clean. We than made our lunch and hoped on the bus. On the way back home we stopped and ate our lunch. We got back on the bus and drove home.

We had an awesome time.
