Wellbeing

Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, make a different choice.

HOW2Learn

Throughout the world, educational systems are looking for ways in which ‘young people can be provided with the educational experiences that will enable them to deal successfully with current and future change with optimism and resilience’. There are multiple guiding documents that shape our thinking in public schools NSW, so it is an exciting time to be an educator and a learner.

Documents such as the ‘Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians’, the ‘Australian Curriculum’ and the ‘NSW syllabuses’ give us a framework to begin thinking in new and focused ways.

The second goal of the ‘Melbourne Declaration on Educational Goals for Young Australians’ commits ‘to supporting all young Australians to become successful learners, confident and creative individuals, and active and informed citizens’.

Confident and creative individuals:

  • have a sense of self‐worth, self‐awareness and personal identity that enables them to manage their emotional, mental, spiritual and physical wellbeing
  • have a sense of optimism about their lives and the future–are enterprising, show initiative and use their creative abilities
  • develop personal values and attributes such as honesty, resilience, empathy and respect for others
  • have the knowledge, skills, understandings and values to establish and maintain healthy, satisfying lives
  • have the confidence and capability to pursue university or post‐secondary vocational qualifications leading to rewarding and productive employment
  • relate well to others and form and maintain healthy relationships
  • are well prepared for their potential life roles as family, community and workforce members
  • embrace opportunities, make rational and informed decisions about their own lives and accept responsibility for their own actions.
