Living Skills Class - Cooking and Tile Making

Why is it important to measure accurately?

So you can create fantastic products like these…….

The Living Skills class have been learning about measurement and the everyday uses of measuring accurately. We have learnt about:

  • Length with centimetres and meters using rulers, tapes and trundle wheels.
  • Volume with millilitres and litres using jugs, cups and spoons.
  • Weight with grams and kilograms using scales.

In the kitchen using the correct ingredients and amounts have been demonstrated with cooking products that not only look good but taste great as well. Next time the challenge will be to cook without sugar!!!!!! Thank you to Mrs Taylor, Lorraine, Karen and Ashleigh for all your help.

Other examples of our work with measurement included working with tiles to create a pattern and also measure the correct size for the product. We compared the differences when working with small tiles for a coaster and larger tiles for a placement.  Thank you to Mr Wittig for all his help with this activity!
