Year 9 into 10 Course Counselling: Thursday 27th of July McClelland College

The transition from Year 9 to 10 is an important milestone for the students at McClelland College. For most Year 9 students there is a mix of excitement and some apprehension about making this transition. To assist students and families both in transition and choosing a course of study, the College conducts a number of workshops, activities and information sessions. More details will be provided in the near future, but it is important that parents start having conversations with their children, about possible future pathways.

High Resolves

On Thursday the 8th of June the year nines’ had a guest speaker called John, come in from the company High Resolves and he taught us about digital citizenship. The year nines’ were broken up into two groups. Half had the morning session and the other half had the afternoon session. The lessons were certainly not boring and were highly interactive. The lesson drew on real world problems including social media arguments, the refugee crisis, terrorism and then talked about issues closer to home, like the canteen and the price for gravy.  The best part was when John let one of the students Rick Roll the whole class.(Photo 1)

Helen Chebatte - Guest Speaker

During Term 2, the main focus in Module 1 (English/Global literacy) for all Year 9’s was the book ‘Bro’, written by Helen Chebatte. We were fortunate enough to have Helen Chebatte come into our school, and talk about the main points she focused on within the book such as multiculturalism, what inspired and influenced her; along with any questions we had after reading the novel. This was a great opportunity for all of us students to understand issues in our community and relate to a book. In conclusion everybody learnt a valuable lesson and definitely enjoyed themselves. Vietnam War Guest Speaker

The year nines have been studying Australians at war. On the 9th of June we had a guest speaker from the Vietnam War speak to all year nine students. He gave us a better insight of the Vietnam War and what it was like to fight in it. He told us about what the training was like and what the living conditions were like. It was a fun and exciting experience. It widened out knowledge of the war and the events that happened in the war. (Photo 3)
