RoboCup Junior Rescue State Champions!

Not happy to rest on their laurels after a 2nd place finish in the secondary division of the Melbourne Regional Rescue competition, Koosha Kayani and George Sempelidis brought their robot (Pashmam) back to school, rebuilt it, fixed up the code and tested it under the most difficult conditions in preparation for the Victorian State Championships. With 65 teams competing it was never going to be easy to finish in the top three and qualify for the finals, but they did! Their robot completed the head-to-head Grand Final round nearly flawlessly, giving George and Koosha the trophy and a gold medal each. Now on to the Nationals, which are in Melbourne at the start of term 4.

But they weren’t the only team to perform well. Eve Gascoigne and Archie Halliwell’s robot finished equal first on points out of 65 teams in the Riley Rover Rescue novice division. The tie break for teams on equal points is based on the total time taken to complete the five competition rounds. They missed out on a top three finish by a matter of seconds. On to next year!
