Year 12 News
With not long to go until VCAA examinations, it is imperative that all Year 12 students continue to work towards completing all outcomes. Now is the time for all students to be accessing and completing VCAA past exam papers and examiners reports. This is only one way of revising unit 3 and unit 4 content. Students should also ensure that they have completed their study notes for each subject as well as finalising their bound references (for maths subjects).
A vital part of revising for the end of year exams is attending the upcoming practise exams (first week of the September holidays). Every student was emailed a copy of the timetable. Students can wear casual clothes but they will need to have on them their photo ID. All students are to attend the exams as each teacher will be able to provide feedback on the students' level of achievement to date and, most importantly, areas of improvement.
Each student has been given a copy of the Navigator, a copy of the examination advice slip and a copy of special examination arrangements (for some students only). All of these documents are published by VCAA and therefore should be read through carefully and put in a safe place.
Students have been working with Heather Palm, our Careers Advisor, on VTAC preferences. Please ensure that closing dates for the application, SEAS and Scholarships is strictly adhered to and that all the correct documentation is uploaded by the due dates.
I would like to take the opportunity to thank all Year 12 Executive members who have worked tirelessly throughout the year to organise special occasions such as the Formal and designing and putting together the Yearbook, as well as trying to keep the Year 12 study area in an orderly way. They have held and attended meetings and have acted upon their cohort’s needs and wants. Thank you and well done.
Lastly, it is vital that students continue to look after themselves by eating properly, sleeping well and have an overall balance of school, work and general life and a reminder that there are support services within the school that they can access if there is a need.
If you have any queries or questions about the end of Year 12, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school on 9571 7838.

Year 11 News
There has been a lot of excitement in the lead up to the Year 11 Ski Camp this week. Latest weather forecast… Fresh powder! The Campers headed off on Tuesday morning and we are looking forward to hearing all about their experiences on Mount Buller.
A number of Year 11 students also participated in the Prevention Alcohol and Risk-related Trauma in Youth Program (P.A.R.T.Y.) at the Alfred Hospital last week. The in-hospital program aimed to provide participants with information that will enable them to recognise potential injury-producing situations, make prevention orientated choices, and adopt behaviours that minimise unnecessary risk. Our students participated in a variety of practical sessions facilitated by clinical staff in the following departments:
- Emergency and Trauma Centre (E&TC)
- Intensive Care Unit (ICU)
- Physiotherapy
- Occupational Therapy
- Orthotics and Prosthetics
Our students also spoke with a volunteer patient from the E&TC who shared their story and experiences in the Trauma Unit. The overall experience was very sobering and insightful.
Glen Eira College was very lucky to have the opportunity to engage in this program. A special thank you goes to Christalia Formoso (College Nurse) who applied for GEC to participate in the program.
Finally, just a reminder for those Year 11 students studying a year 12 subject… The end of year Practice Exams are being conducted in the first week of the holidays. The students can come in casual clothing but they MUST bring their photo ID. The exam timetable has been emailed out to all students involved. The students should have received their VCAA examination advice slip which they need to keep in a safe place.

Year 10 Peer Support Leaders have been facilitating the Year 7 team sessions each Friday for “Fun Friday”. They have been doing a marvellous job of making the transition period for the Year 7s a most welcoming and positive experience. Year 10 Peer Support Leaders have been organising a Quiz to promote Mental Health for Year 7 students. The mental health kahoot will be held on 7th October.
Congratulations to all Year 10 students who participated in The Wizard of Oz production. It was a great production full of amazing talent and brilliance.
Students will have the opportunity to attend the Araluen Lutheran Year 10 camp that provides great facilities and activities located on the Great Ocean Road. Camp dates are from the 16th – 18th of September.
Work Experience Week will be on the 16th – 20th of September. This is a great opportunity for students to work in a field of their interest for the week. Students need to ensure they see me or Heather Palm if they have any issues or questions. Work Experience is held in Week 10 of Term 3.
Progress Reports are available through XUNO. It’s important that parents, guardians and students sit down and look through the report together. It’s an ideal time to set goals, develop study routines at home and touch base with teachers if there are concerns. We are looking forward to seeing you at parent/teacher interviews in the coming weeks.
