Year 7 Highlights
Year 7 camp is just around the corner and the Year 7's excitement is obvious. It is going to be a great opportunity for them to solidify their friendships, with the potential of making more.
Over the last month Year 7 students had their interschool sports day with the opportunity to play Basketball, Futsal and Table Tennis. As can be seen in the photos, students pushed themselves and had great fun in the process.

Year 8 Highlights
Congratulations to the many Year 8 students who received History Competition awards at our Tuesday assembly, handed out by Principal for a Day Mr Jason Kimberly, Managing Director of Cool Australia.
Your coordinators are occasionally suggesting Home Study ideas to your team teachers. These are ideas for things to learn outside of the homework that is allocated. Suggestions this week include taking a trip down memory lane and re-reading Roald Dahl’s Revolting Rhymes on the eve of his birthday on Friday 13th September. There is also the NGV Screen It competition for anyone into animation or game design.
We have also done some winter sports. The girls Ultimate Frisbee team put to shame the boys team by playing in the rain at Elwood Reserve when the weather rolled in. Both teams took on Cheltenham, Elwood and Beaumaris in good spirits. Everyone had a good day out with lunch on the beach, poking dead jellyfish and dipping their feet in the bay. The spirit and behaviour all students exhibited was excellent and we should be proud of them.

Year 9 Highlights
This term Year 9 students have been working hard on their fund raising for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre (ASRC). The ASRC provide food, material aid, legal aid, education and training, physical and mental wellbeing and healthcare to people seeking asylum. The Year 9s will be organising market stalls where they will be selling everything from gourmet milkshakes, cookies, hotdogs and a whole variety of products with all profits going to ASRC.
You will read below a few words from one of our Junior School Captains, Yashasvi Agrawal.

From the Junior School Captains
So far in semester two the Year 9s have had a wonderful and an extremely productive term. They have had innumerable opportunities to connect with the outer community and learn new skills. Six Year 9 students have spent the term in the Alpine School located amidst the snow in Dinner Plain. They are spending their time away from academic studies and utilising that time to learn key concepts of leadership which will benefit them throughout their lives. These students return back to their normal routine next term and face the struggles posed by their academic studies yet again.
On the other hand, students that are still here attending GEC have also had plenty to do besides learn Maths and English. The Year 9 program provides them with numerous chances that lead them to take a stand and plan on their own accord. Recently the Year 9 students planned to fundraise for the Asylum Seeker Resource Centre by setting market stalls at lunchtime on the 11/12th of September. Advertisements for these stalls have been plastered on each and every white wall of the school - from inside the classrooms to throughout the corridors. The eye-catching posters really cannot be missed while walking to and from classes.
Some of the Year 9 students have also participated in co-curricular activities such as the school production - which was as usual a huge hit. The participation was very much appreciated and loved by both the crew and the audience.
During the term, we also had incursions and competitions that they had the lovely opportunity to partake in. The author of the book Graffiti Moon - Cath Crowley - came in to talk to us about her experiences while writing this book that most of the Year 9 classes are reading as part of their English curriculum. We have also had the whole year level engage in the Australian Mathematics Competition, which is held every year for each year level.
