Year 8 Science
Our Year 8 students went back to basics by creating “paper cup phones”. These work by transmitting sound vibrations along a tightly-pulled string. The bottom of each cup serves as a combination "microphone" and "speaker," picking up sound vibrations on one and reproducing the sound at the other. Some students became creative and conducted 3 way conversations. Others were able to communicate with each other from as far away as two flights of stairs!

STEAM: Frontiers and Applications Tour
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to fly through space, experience weightlessness, travel to Mars? Have you ever been curious about the physics, the engineering and design of amusement park rides? Have you ever wanted to experience the natural beauty of our own Earth on an airboat ride through the Florida Everglades?
Next year 15 students from Years 7 to 11 will have the opportunity to do just that and, in the process, learn about the science, technology, engineering, art and maths associated with each of these activities. Sue Rio and David Ebert from the Arts and Technology, Maths and Science departments will be accompanying the students.
