Magis

This coming week sees several highlights for Magis, commencing with the Alpha Motivation Breakfast on Tuesday  which is open to all Magis and Altiora students and should be a very exciting event.  Then on Thursday there will be a very special Magis Breakfast open to all Year 11 and 12 students. This will feature the outstanding speaker Fr Michael McMahon delivering a keynote address on Secularism, one of the key topics in the Religion and Life courses in senior school.  Both Breakfasts are free and will be held in the library commencing at 7:30am.

Another major event this coming week is the Space Camp 2020  Information evening  at Corpus Christi College on Thursday evening. Twelve students have submitted expressions of interest.  Nominations for the prestigious Da Vinci Decathlon Gifted and Talented Program have been submitted and John XXIII College has nominated one team (the maximum allowed) in each year level from Years 7 to 12.  Students are reminded to submit your forms if you wish to compete for your school.  Training arrangements for this and for the 11 Interschool debating teams will be finalised by the end of week 4. Nomination forms for another outstanding Gifted and Talented program, Creative Edge, which our Year 12 team won last year, will be distributed this week.  The program is only for students in Years 10-12.

The first round of the Academic Spelling challenge was run this week, and make-up rounds will be held in week four for the  students who were unable to take the challenge last week. Results will be in the Week 5 newsletter.  Meanwhile in the Year 7 and 8 GATE programs students are currently commencing their International Baccalaureate style personal projects,  and preparing for the debating program.

Nominations  for the Magis Program are still open to all qualifying  students,  and other high performing, motivated students may join as Altiora students and have available most of the Magis-run competitions, events, challenges, breakfasts and tours.  Magis and Altiora badges for all students who have signed up as active members maybe picked up from the Magis office.
