Year 12 Ball

The Year 12 Ball was a successful evening which was thoroughly enjoyed by all. The theme “Met Gala” provided the glamour for the evening and the Garden Wall was a huge hit for the students. I would like to congratulate the Year 12s on their excellent behaviour and for the way they approached the formal aspects of the evening. Thank you to our Events Captains Brianna Judge and Grace Thomas for their hard work and organisation in the lead up to the event. Official photos from the evening will be released shortly.

Year 12 Community Mass

Year 12 students and parents are invited to the Community Mass on Friday 1 March at 8:00am in the Chapel. Please join us afterwards for a coffee in the Circle of Friends at Café.

Years 10-12 Assessment Policy

As discussed at the recent Parent Information Evenings our College Assessment Policy is based on creating a fair and equitable learning environment for all students. As such it is timely to remind all Year 10-12 students, given many courses will conduct their first assessment in the coming week that students are required to submit a medical certificate if they are sick on the day of an assessment.

Students are also required to complete any missed assessments, whether for valid or invalid reasons the following Tuesday morning at 8:00am or Thursday afternoon at 3:15pm in the Learning Enrichment Centre. Students and parents will receive an email from the relevant Assistant Deputy Principal informing them of specific details.

If you have any queries please contact your child’s Assistant Deputy Principal.

Years 11-12 Study Strategies

It is important at this stage of the academic year that all students have settled in well to school. Particularly for our senior students, it is essential they have created a realistic study timetable that assigns blocks of time, approximately 45 minutes per course to study and other time to the completion of homework. The inclusion of other activities, such as sports training, socialising and family time are equally important and should be allocated time in the study timetable.

Once a study timetable is created, the next hurdle is to ensure that students adhere to it! Given our students are all individuals this next step can be different for each student – for some students they like their study timetable displayed publicly so they are held accountable for it whilst others prefer to manage this themselves. The key is that students are actually devoting time to study each of their courses to ensure they are reinforcing the knowledge and skills they learn each day to prepare them for the following lesson. Study also enables students to deepen their understanding of concepts and develop links between topics. This means students are thinking at a higher order rather than rote learning information. This consistent application to their learning is the best way for students to gain confidence in a course and avoid cramming two nights before an assessment.

Greenbatch Plastic Recycling Launch

GreenBatch is Western Australia's first plastic recycling facility and has partnered with John XXIII College to give waste plastic a new life by reprocessing plastic bottles into 3D printer filaments. Watch the video and learn more about the program. Read more about this under the Sustainability section of the newsletter.

John XXIII College Japan Study Tour

The Japan Study Tour explored both modern and traditional aspects of Japan. Students were able to experience what daily life and school is really like, see many beautiful places and broaden their knowledge of Japanese language and culture first hand. Students stayed with host families and were able to use their language skills when visiting many places.
