What a start it’s been! Despite the delayed commencement, we have had a positive transition and particularly enjoyed welcoming our Year 7s who are settling in well to school life. It has been encouraging to watch students across all year levels demonstrating strong levels of engagement and enthusiasm in classes.

Uniform and Personal Grooming:

Earlier in the term, we shared reminders regarding our St Mary’s uniform and personal grooming expectations. I am pleased that on the whole, students are exhibiting these high standards consistently. It is important that all students are committed to maintaining these expectations throughout the year.

Lunchtime Detentions:

Recently, the Pastoral Team has implemented some changes to our processes that address Tier 1 behaviours. Examples of these behaviours include incomplete homework, arriving late to class, and uniform and personal grooming infringements. Teachers will determine when it is appropriate for students demonstrating such behaviours will incur a lunchtime detention. These are held daily during first break for 15 minutes and are supervised by Heads of Year. During the detentions, students complete a reflection and goal setting activity. Parents will be notified (via email) if three detentions have been received in a term. A forth lunch detention will result in an After School Detention. Finally, it is important to note all students will have a fresh start at the commencement of each term.

Merits:

It is great to see students already receiving merits for positive learning behaviours and engagement. Merits are administered by teachers throughout the year for various reasons such as excellent work and effort, commitment to improvement, contribution to our community, and achievements in and out of school. I am looking forward to seeing more students earning these and working towards obtaining a Head of Year Certificate (four merits), Principal’s Certificate (four HOY Certificates), and the ultimate, College Medallion (four Principal’s Certificates).  I encourage students to keep up the great work!

Thank you for your ongoing support and commitment to St Mary’s. I wish each of you the very best for the challenges and excitements of the year ahead.

Sincerely

Alison Krause
