PREP NEWS

BUDDIES

We have had a big term of Prep so far! One of the biggest highlights have been connecting with our Grade 5/6 Buddies. Each Prep student has been paired up with a Grade 5/6 student to assist in the big transition to school and allow them to feel comfortable out in the playground. We have scheduled time every fortnight to meet with our buddies and have lots of fun together. So far the buddies have read stories together, completed a craft, played board games and share our cultures during Harmony Day. The Preps are constantly gushing about their buddies and it has been so lovely to see such wonderful relationships form so quickly!

MATHS

In Maths last week the Preps were learning all about patterns. We know that a pattern repeats itself and follows a rule. We went on a pattern hunt around the school, copied patterns, continued patterns made by others and created our own patterns using objects and drawings. Now we have a keen eye for patterns everywhere around us!

SHOW AND TELL

To further develop our speaking and listening skills, the Preps share in front of the class for a weekly Show and Tell. We have a different topic each week and the big focus for this term is getting to know one another. We have shared photos of our family, our favourite family memory, our friends and our culture. It is a fantastic opportunity for the students to practice speaking in front of a group, using a loud clear voice, looking at the audience, and staying on topic. It also allows the Preps to learn more about one another and connect further with their classmates!

YEAR 5/6 BUDDY ACTIVITIES

Fortnightly, the grade 5/6's get together with their Prep buddies. We learn and create alongside each other, which forms a special bond with the Preps. The 5/6's are bouncing of the walls with happiness to spend time with them. 

Last week, we had a fun afternoon playing games, we even taught them how to play Tic Tac Toe and Mouse, after we had completed our games, we took the opportunity to teach some of our buddies how to make paper aeroplanes. We are fortunate to spend time together building friendships and relationships. The 5/6's can't wait to continue to have fun with the Preps, as the year continues.

YEAR 2A NEWS

It's up, up and away with Year 2! The team have been working on informal units of measurement by flying paper planes and then measuring the distance they travel.

At the lunch time Building Club, Year 2 have been working on their fine motor skills, and with great communication skills have been building some fantastic objects as a team - great work!!

YEAR 3/4 AND 5/6

In 3/4s and 5/6s we have been busy exploring our passions and understanding the process or problem. We celebrated Harmony Day and our diverse cultural backgrounds. Several students practiced their tee ball skills in preparation for our Gala Day whilst others played tennis or ultimate frisbee. We have also been investigating place value in Maths and making connections to the Formula 1!!
