Steph, one of our very dedicated parents who is managing our breakfast club, and all our volunteers who sign up to support it. Coming in each morning to see so many of our students and their parents enjoying breakfast together and connecting is very special, and I am grateful we are able to rebuild this part of our community so well.
We have arranged for our Make Up photo day for missed photos to be on the Wednesday 6th April 2022 – which is the Wednesday of Week 10. This will be in school hours for any children who missed photo day. We will timetable this during the school day and anyone who was not present for photo day will get their picture taken.
On Thursday the 17th of March we had our Prep Information Session for our prep parents to look at literacy and how we teach it. A huge thank you to our fantastic prep teachers for running this presentation, and an even bigger thank you for all our parents who joined in and invested the time to help build our partnership to ensure that ‘learning doesn’t just happen at school’. Unfortunately we were unable to record the presentation, Google Meet had recently changed their policy on recording and we were unaware of this at the time. All the key information that was covered will be sent out to our families in a .pdf slide pack.
One important note is that the preps have not started home reading yet as the books are still being covered, but our team is very excited to get started as soon as the readers are ready!
Please remember that if you have any wonderings or questions at all throughout your child’s learning journey to reach out and talk to your teacher.
Our playground installation is well underway, and we can start to see some of the equipment being installed. We are very excited to be able to use the final product in Term 2!
On Monday 21st we celebrated National Harmony Day. Harmony Day is a day to celebrate Australian multiculturalism, based on the successful integration of migrants into the community. Harmony Day is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians, regardless of cultural or linguistic background.
We decided to celebrate Harmony Day through the use of our House Colours to bring a sense of community to our house groups and introduce students to their house teammates. It was fantastic to see all our students dressed up in their house colours and engaged in their community building activities!
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) for Years 3, 5, will be held on Tuesday 10th May, Wednesday 11th May and Thursday 12th May 2022. NAPLAN tests assess student knowledge and skills in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and Numeracy.
The results of the tests provide information for students, parents, teachers and principals which can be used to improve student achievement.
All students are expected to participate in the NAPLAN tests. During test week, catch-up tests will be available for individual students who are absent on test days. These students may undertake catch-up tests on the days in the test week after the scheduled test, up to and including Friday 13th May 2022.
Support can be arranged for students with disabilities, if the student regularly uses similar support for classroom assessment tasks. Large print, braille, electronic and black and white versions of the tests are available for students that require them.
Exemptions may be granted to students with significant intellectual disabilities and to students who have been learning English for less than one year. If your child is eligible for support due to disability or an exemption, you should discuss this with his/her teacher prior to the tests. Parental consent is required before any support due to disability or exemption is granted.
Students may be withdrawn from NAPLAN by their parent or carer. This is a matter for consideration by parents and carers in consultation with the principal. If, after consultation, you decide to withdraw your child, you must sign a Student Withdrawal form. These forms are available at the school.
For more information about the tests, please visit the VCAA website at www.vcaa.vic.edu.auor the NAP website at www.nap.edu.au.
