Message from the Principal

Dear Parents,

On Tuesday 15th March, parents of Tiana in JLC, Maddie and Moulee announced the arrival of their second child Jayden, weighing 3.05 kg and 52 cms in length. Both Maddi and Jayden are now at home and reportedly doing well. I'm sure Tiana will make a wonderful big sister. The children and staff can't wait to meet Jayden!

As part of our marketing strategy to be more outward facing in our community, we joined forces with our local butcher Belmore Biodynamics to run a sausage sizzle where we made $215 in profit.

Thank you to Ilse Spillane, Jasmine and Justin de Waard for volunteering on the day.

There will be more opportunities to run the sausage sizzle on Saturdays over the course of the year. If you are interested in helping out please put your name down on the volunteer sign up which will be coming out in the next couple of weeks.

Last week, we hosted our Annual Welcome Parent Dinner for all the new families who joined our community this year as well as those who joined us during lockdown last year.

It was a wonderful opportunity for our new parents to talk and get to know each other as well as our staff.

Thank you to Mark Longmuir, a previous parent and proprietor of Spitting Image Catering, for providing the delicious and plentiful finger food.

Also, thank you to Talia the President of our Parents and Friends Committee, who organised the event as well as prepared the beautiful invitations.

Last week, we ran our annual Scholastic Book Fair which encourages the love of books and reading.

Thank you to Mrs Dunn for organising and running the event.

The support we received from our community in terms of purchases was overwhelming. Of the $2,345 in sales we received $586 in commission which will be used to buy valuable resources for our school library.

Recently, I applied for a $200,000 State and Federal Government grant in order to undertake some much needed work around the school. These works include replacement of a new roof, new artificial turf, renovation of the staff bathroom and the redevelopment of our Wellbeing Garden.

As part of this process, Tim Smith our local State Member of Parliament came to visit our school to see first hand what improvements we needed. As a result of this visit, Tim kindly provided a letter of support of my application to the Minister of Education. Now we wait to see if we are successful in the grant being approved.

Wednesday this week, our Year 5/6 students attended an Anointing Mass for those parishioners in our Church who are considered vulnerable. Following the Mass, our students hosted a morning tea, which gave them an opportunity to converse with those parishioners present.

In the last two weeks, I have had visits from the Principal of Siena College, Elizabeth Hanney and the Principal of Marcellin College, Macro Di Cesare. Both were keen to connect with our school and see how they could support us moving forward.

We talked about their enrolment process and giving priority to students from a feeder Catholic Primary School such as St Bridget's irrespective of religion. Also, financially supporting those families in need, ensuring their schools are accessible to all families wanting to enrol.

Elizabeth also presented me with a lovely framed photo of some of our girls who started at Siena College this year in Year 7.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend.

Kind regards,

Mrs Robyn Thomson
