Dollars and Sense

Students in Dollars and Sense this term have been learning about saving, budgeting, and borrowing money.

Students tested their knowledge playing against each other in 'Blooket' Crypto currency games on saving and budgeting concepts and case studies to see who could apply their knowledge to quiz questions earning them the opportunity to earn more currency and hack others.

All students enjoyed putting their skills and knowledge to the test well done to Kyden, Samuel and Ryley who each won a game.

Outdoor performances “Tunes-day”

Outdoor performances “Tunes-day” came about when Mr Trounson mentioned to me at the end of the 2021 school year that Aquinas College have outdoor performances and that it would be good to try it out here at Ringwood.

After some back and forth between myself Mr Trounson and Mrs Pero (the director of music here at Ringwood), we had our first performance Thursday the 17th of February and we had our second performance on Tuesday the 22nd. Our idea has really stemmed from not having music throughout the collage in the last 2 years and even in the ‘normal’ school years of 2017, 2018 and 2019, it’s a really simple and easy way to get the collage community engaged with music.

You don’t have to be in the music program you just need to play an instrument, you don’t even have to be a student, teachers are highly encouraged to participate too. We really hope this creates a real interest for music and performing arts, we have a really driven prefect team with already only 4 weeks into the school year have ideas going and certainly more to come.

I really hope that Tunes-day is to carry on longer than just 2022 here at Ringwood, it’s all about getting out there and having a go a standard Ringwood is proud to be known for.

2022 Swim Meet at Aquanation

On the 15th of February we held our district swim meet at Aqua nation in which we had around 40 keen students participate in a range of swimming events.

The participants had the chance to make their way into the 2022 Division swim team. Students had the opportunity to compete in the 50m Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly as well as the 100m Freestyle and 200m freestyle.

The day ran extremely smoothly due to the amazing help from all the teachers that came along to assist and also the students that helped. The students were on their best behaviour which made the event so easy to run and most importantly they had heaps of fun swimming amongst their friends.

A massive congratulations to everyone that participated on the day, and all the best to the students in our Division Team who will be going out to compete on the 7th of March.

Geography

In 8J Geography today students learnt about floods and deepen their knowledge students tested infiltration rates on difference surfaces, creating a hypothesis then testing it over three different sites around the school.

Students then reviewed their data to make a conclusion about infiltration rates and what affects them.  They then were able to make an evaluation around what type of surfaces, the significance of infiltration vs runoff that can leads to flooding.

Students enjoyed getting outside the classroom to test their hypothesis and conduct the experiment.
