Year 7 Camp - Student Reflections

To get to camp we had a long bus ride to Camp Jungai in the mountains of Rubicon. The river, and the bus ride were definitely worth it. There was stunning scenery with mountains in the distance, a small lake that looked crystal clear and bush land surrounding us. My group leader was Nat and we started with the 6km bush walk. It was incredible while looking at the tall trees and listening to the river that was close by. We had a delicious pasta bake for dinner and frog in a pond for dessert, before watching a movie called ‘Mitchells VS The Machines.’ I slept in a cabin on the first night with others in my house.

The next day we had Initiatives, which was great for teamwork and getting to know each other. We then had a cultural session with Aunty, a local Indigenous lady. She taught us many things about the land and plants. But possibly my favourite thing we did that day was canoeing. We had a wonderful time playing games and trying to steer the canoe! We played games until it was time to head in.

The second night I got to sleep in a tent. I shared a tent with someone from my cabin the night before and had fun setting it up. We had a barbecue dinner and ice creams before playing games with everyone and our groups.

On the last day I did high ropes and was very proud of myself for doing it. We were given the rolls that we ordered the day before and stopped in Euroa to eat them. It was a fun bus trip home and lovely to see our parents when we got home.

I am sure everyone had fun because I certainly did!

I woke up at 6.30 to get ready for a wonderful three days at Camp Jungai. As soon as I got my stuff together we got in the car and set off to St Joes. On the car ride I felt a little bit nervous because I didn't know what to expect. But when I got on the bus all my nerves went away.

Then we got there three hours later. When we got off the bus we headed straight to the oval to figure out who was in our group. I was so excited!! I was put in an amazing group with an amazing group leader. Then we were told we could go up and look at our cabin. As we climbed up the hill I was so excited to see my cabin and what it looked like. When I finally got up the hill I ran straight to Cabin One. I got to my cabin and I loved it. I loved the bunk beds, I loved the set up, I loved everything about it!

Fast forward a little bit later we had a cultural talk by Aunty, who was a local Indigenous person. It was amazing. We got to walk around the property and try different leaves, look at different plants and got to make soap out of the leaves off a black wood tree. Then we went to the dining room and got to try some spices. Some were sweet, some were sour and some were bitter but they were all really nice. My favourite was the Davidson's Plum! It was so good!

Then we did high ropes. As we were getting our harnesses and helmets on I started to get butterflies in my stomach. I was getting really nervous but I just focused on the positives and ended up doing it. I loved it. It was so much fun and I would definitely do it again. If the Year 7's went to Camp Jungai next year I would totally recommend it!

Then it was time to have dinner and chill. That night we had pasta, baked salad and garlic bread. It was so good. The food was amazing. So was the dessert we had frog in a pond. It was really good. Then we had a liturgy. I read the closing prayer. It was really fun. Then we watched a movie and chilled for the rest of the night.

The next day I went on a hike. I loved sitting by the river and listening to the water crashing against the rocks. It was so calming and I had so much fun. For the rest of the day we played games and had fun as a group. Then it was time to set up my tent and go to bed.

The next morning we went canoeing then got ready to go home.

Camp was so fun!!! I loved it.
