Secondary 11/12

Team Leader's Message

Term1

2022 has started off very busy for our VCAL students.  As well as adjusting to a new curriculum, our Secondary Year 11 students have attended the Melbourne City Camp and our Secondary Year 12 students have finally been able to have their Presentation Ball. Both events provide students with evidence towards achieving their Personal Development Skills Learning Outcomes as part of their VCAL program.

Our Secondary Year 11 team headed off to the Melbourne City Experience camp in week 8 where 35 students and staff travelled on public transport into the city to explore all

that Melbourne has to offer. They discovered why it was (pre-Covid) one of the most visited cities in the world. This experience gave everyone a chance to get to know each other better and build some strong team unity.

Students collaboratively investigated the venues we attended and made all the necessary preparations for the event to make sure it was enjoyable for everyone. Staying two nights at our centrally located hotel we travelled all over the city on public transport and by foot. Students marvelled at the beauty of our city and explored previously unknown places and activities as well as tasting new cuisines and eating in different restaurants. They were able to enjoy many new experiences that many of them plan to take their families back to see for themselves!!  The students all demonstrated confidence and maturity and were a pleasure to take on camp.

After 2 false starts last year, thanks to Covid, we were finally able to enjoy the Year 12 Presentation Ball at ‘The Centre’ in Ivanhoe.  The students all stepped up rehearsing dances learnt last year, refitted dresses and suits and gathered their family and friends for a night that I don’t imagine many will forget.  The event started off with students being picked up in style and arriving at the Ivanhoe venue in limousines with photographers and videographers like paparazzi recording their every move. Once families had arrived we were set to start. There were not many dry eyes in the house as each student was presented to the nearly 300 guests in attendance. Students performed their set dances with confidence, enjoyed a delicious meal and then partied the night away with their families and friends.

Enjoy the photos of both these fabulous events.  Later in the year the year 11 Presentation Ball will be held and the Year 12 students will head off to camp. Watch this space for these upcoming events.

It has been a nice time getting to know the students and understanding their interests. The VET program has been great to be involved in and build on for next term.

The Year 11 city camp was fun navigating the way through the city during the Hoddle Waddle.
