Cultural Studies - Ms Foster

It has been a great start to the year in Cultural Studies and Library. We have loved being back onsite to borrow books each week. Please make sure your child brings their red library bag on the correct day so they do not miss out on borrowing.

Thank you to those parents who have volunteered to help cover new books for our library! They have done an amazing job getting the books back to me quickly, so now my main problem has been keeping up with demand! I love how helpful our school community is!

Cultural Studies Prep - 3

We love learning about the world, and the Grade 1s and 2s have decorated the entry to the library with the flags of the world. It was interesting to learn about countries we hadn't even heard of, and see some of the amazing flag designs of the world. It looks great!

Prep

In Prep, we have been investigating 'What is Culture?". We have looked at the ways in which we all look different (skin colour, shapes, hair colour) and also how we are the same. We discussed WHY we look different, and investigated our own Cultural Backgrounds. Our Cultural Background is not only where we are born, but also our parents and grandparents. We have a wide range of cultures in our classrooms and enjoyed creating a little person who looks like us, holding the flags of our cultural backgrounds.

Grade One and Two

In Grade One and Two, we have been investigating Asian Culture through literature. We have learnt about celebrations as they are happening - Chinese New Year and Nowruz (Persian New Year). We have also read stories about other Asian countries such as Japan, Korea and Vietnam. Our 1/2 students love hearing about other cultures, as well as sharing their own experiences and stories. A favourite time in Cultural Studies is when we explore the globe using Google Earth. We can't believe the sights we see and places we visit without even leaving the classroom.

Grade Three

In Grade Three, we have been researching Asian Culture. The students have chosen a Asian country to research, and have familiarised themselves with the flag. We have also discovered and researched the food and language of the country. Next we will research the traditional leisure activities and the final topic will be student choice. We can't wait to share the finished product with you!
