Yarra Ranges Tech School
Where: Yarra Ranges Tech School
Who: Year 8
Program: High Tech Hospital (2 days)
At the Yarra Ranges Tech. School students were challenged to think about the hospital of the future and how technology can improve efficiency in hospital’s operations and boost patient morale. They learnt about the systems behind robotics and how they operate using programming techniques. Students were introduced to circuitry and electronics and then applied their learned knowledge to develop their solution to the challenge while working as part of a team.
A big thank you to Ms Benham for coordinating this program over the past few years and this year!
Here's some thoughts from our Year 8 students about their experience.
What did you do:
- Program a puppy robot to assist and entertain people in hospital
- Built a time waster with little bits
- Play with robots
- Learn about tech
- Use tech
- Used little bits to make them play music and built a remote control car
- Designed an app to improve patient morale at hospital
- We made a presentation about our invention
- Learnt about design thinking
What was new:
- Programming the puppy to do all the things at once
- Robots
- Programming
- Using little bits to build circuits
Positives from the two days:
- I tried my best and spoke in front of the class
- It was fun
- We got to leave school
- It was fun and good to see and work with friends
- Got to work with my friends and create a cool app
