What am I reading
‘Ash Mountain’ by Helen Fitzgerald
At the end of 2021, Mr Rennick generously gave each staff member a book as a gift. I took this book away and I found myself struggling to put it down.
‘Ash Mountain’ is a fictional story which I believe is based on the Black Saturday fires in Marysville. It jumps back and forth between different individual's perception of the events leading to a town wiped out by a wall of fire, as well as a township scandal in amongst the chaos.
Usually I enjoy a happy and romantic ending, however this ending was something different. This book reminded me that life is precious, it can be kind and it can be cruel.
