My (still) Life
Monday 21 February was an exciting day for the Year 10 Painting and Printmaking students as they had an all day incursion with artist John Lawry. John started the students on their My (still) Life oil painting, demonstrating and providing individual advice on how to mix the correct tone for the area they were painting, how to paint texture on the fabric and which brushes to use.
In preparation for the incursion, students selected three cherished items to include in their still life composition. Looking at Carraggio’s chiaroscuro lighting technique, students set up their still life using a lamp to create the strong shadow lighting effect.
Feedback from students:
I’m really enjoying today’s all day painting class because I am able to learn how to mix the colours to match my photograph. Olivia
Today is good because I’m learning new things like how to mix colours. Jesele
I’m really enjoying today because I like painting. Using oil paint is new to me. I’m finding it easier than using acrylic paint because oil paint dries the same colour and it’s easier to blend the colours. Skye
