2022 Swimming Sports

On Friday the 11th of February we had our annual Swimming Carnival which was held at the Noble Park Aquatic Centre (NPAC). In the steps leading up to the day, all the house leaders and sport teachers were a little bit anxious because the sign up sheets weren’t as full as we had hoped they would be. Although we still set our hopes high and continued reminding everyone to sign up and swim!

The morning of the swimming carnival rolled around quite quickly and soon enough the house and sport leaders were at the swimming pool, setting up the house banners, sports equipment, teacher refreshment table and of course the most important feature, the scoreboard.

Everything was set up in perfect time and all the students started arriving. We were excited to see everyone dressed up in the house colours and ready to swim . After all the students had arrived we kicked off the events with the 100 metre freestyle.

As the day progressed we saw students from all year levels jumping into the pool to swim and earn points for their house. The day was running smoothly and not to mention MacKillop was winning!!

It was now time for the teacher student race, it was a close race, but Mr Cherringtons team gave it their all and just slid past our Year 12 coming in first place! Well done to the Year 12’s who participated in this race. The final results for the staff vs student race were: In first place - Teachers Team A (only three swimmers! Thanks to Mr Cherrington, Ms Maguire and Ms Camilleri), the student team a close second (well done year 12’s! Great swim) and in third and last place Teacher Team B. Ms Brunt making her debut almost stole 2nd place from the students.. So close Ms Brunt!

We were getting closer to the end of the day and that meant that relays were approaching. Each house takes the relays extremely seriously. Each year 12 house leader was trying madly to find 4 swimmers to participate.. The relays are one of the hardest events to organise but also the most rewarding if you manage to achieve 1st place!

Just before starting the relays, we got to witness a comforting amount of support from both students and staff that made an incredible atmosphere. The relays were a tough challenge for our amazing MacKillop girls as they were up against tough competition. Our girls did an amazing job and portrayed a colossal amount of effort. After the relays had concluded, the nerves started kicking as we waited in anticipation for the final results to be announced.

Second place was announced and with this, we knew the MacKillop girls' hard work had paid off. First place read “MacKillop!”

Holly and I immediately jumped with joy gathering our other amazing house leaders, Katelyn (Year 10 MacKillop House Captain), Chloe (Year 9 MacKillop House Captain) and Marjy (Year 8 MacKillop House Captain). We grabbed our banner and ran to the front.

Filled with absolute joy cheering and raising the plaque over our heads, the 5 of us knew we had done our jobs to the best of our ability. That feeling was absolutely euphoric and we are so grateful, thankful and proud of ourselves but most importantly the amazing girls in our house that participated with an incredible team spirit! We couldn’t have done this without you Mackillop girls! Isabella Diaco (Year 12) and Holly Camp (Year 11)
