Learning and Teaching

Writing

This year in Writing, teachers have been using new software called Brightpath, to assist them in their assessment of students' writing  and determining the next steps in their learning progression.   The software records the results of assessments and reports a range of formative and summative information for staff. Reports are compiled as teams of teachers make their judgements using curriculum standards. Brightpath provides reports that enable teachers and students to quickly ascertain: where students are in their learning, where they need to go and how much progress has been made. This provides an informed basis for developing teaching programs targeting the needs of individual students.

The judgements can be used to:

• track student growth over time

• compare performances across year levels

• provide comparative information of performance with other schools.

Brightpath is based on over a decade of research at the University of Western Australia.
