A Message from the Principal

Mrs Pauline Long

Dear Parents and Carers,

Catholic Schools’ Week will be celebrated in Week 6 of this term from Monday 24th May - Friday 28th May. This is a week to stop and reflect on why a Catholic Education is important today and to celebrate the amazing school community we have here in Quirindi. Parents, grandparents & friends are invited to a special liturgy at 11.30am on Thursday 27th May, followed by open classroom visits and a shared picnic lunch with your children. Please jot this important date in your calendar today!

Last Tuesday I had the pleasure of sitting in on the first Real Talk session for Years 5/6 students. Sam and Angela had the students engaged and having fun through storytelling, games and discussions. The important points or ‘Facts of Life’ from this session were:

  1. Life is a gift and we are all gifts from God;
  2. Life is Sacred and we are all worthy, precious and holy.
  3. We are made in the image of God;
  4. We are made for a purpose- to love God and to love one another.

The students also discussed the impact the media has on our lives and the need for critical thinking. We use screens for communication, information and entertainment but friends and family are most important to people. Friendships shape our life experiences at home and at school. Good friends have a positive influence on our lives as they help us to celebrate happy events and support us in tough times. Tips for being a good friend included:

  1. Smile and be friendly;
  2. Be encouraging and helpful;
  3. Speak kindly to other people;
  4. Stick to the rules of the game and don’t cheat;
  5. Be a good loser if you lose at a game;
  6. Respect the boundaries your friends have in place;
  7. Include others- be welcoming;
  8. Forgive your friends;
  9. Apologise if you do something wrong.

This Wednesday evening, 5th May, we have a PT & F meeting in the school library at 6.00pm - 7.00pm. Our enthusiastic committee would love to welcome new faces to our meetings. I encourage you to come along to support our wonderful school and the added bonus is that you can make new friends as well!

 “A faithful friend is the medicine of life.”
