Prep-2 Sector

Prep

The preps have been working very hard on writing their own sentences.

We are trying to remember to…

  1. Use a capital letter at the start.
  2. Sound out the words to records the letters we hear.
  3. Use finger spaces.
  4. Write on the lines.
  5. Make sure our writing makes sense.
  6. A sentence stopper at the end.

Here is some of their amazing pieces of work.

Well done Preps!

In Science, the prep students have been learning about different materials and words we can use to describe those materials. They have used their senses to observe different objects to sort and describe them.

Year One

In grade 1 we went on our walking excursion to the Caroline Springs lake. On the way, we spoke all about all of the natural and man-made things we could see. We had a chat about how the lake was man-made because it was dug out by people.

In maths we have been measuring lots of different objects using different units of measurement such as unifix blocks, icy pole sticks and counters.

In our Initialit program, we have learnt new types of words, such verbs which are action words, and nouns which are people, places or things.

Year Two

Students in Year Two have returned to school settled into their 2021 grades and ready for the learning challenges and experiences ahead.

In Reading they have learnt about spelling the long ‘u’ sound and adding ‘ing’ to the ends of words. They have also continued to use predicting as a comprehension skill.

For Writing students have worked on understanding verbs and adverbs and how to use these in their own writing to make it more interesting. To support their writing further we have used our Storybook lessons featuring ‘The Lost Girl’ to improve vocabulary, learn more about imaginative story features and how to map out a story with a beginning, middle and end, characters and settings.

We have been very busy in Numeracy as well. In week one students worked on identifying, describing and classifying two dimensional shapes. Week two saw them learning about fractions, especially about how they are equal parts of a whole. This led very nicely into week three where they are studying analogue and digital time and applying what they know about fractions to assist them.

Play based learning/Humanities is all about community this term. In term one we talked about our classroom community and now we are moving further on to incorporate school, home and suburb. We are linking this idea with what services are needed for a community such as Caroline Springs to function such as; police, schools, vet, library, ambulance, shops and doctors.
