School Council News

We are well underway for another year at Brookside College. This means that School Council elections have taken place and office bearers have been elected.

Our thanks go out the outgoing members of council, Jayden D’Souza, Kaelan Marriner, Tarun Gupta and Peter Auld - all of them contributed greatly and will be missed.

We extend a warm welcome to our newest members of the council, parent representative Golam Haque and student representatives Keyara D’Souza and Oliver Cokovski. I am sure Golam, Keyara and Oliver will bring their expertise and passion for education to our School Council.

We also welcome back all the current members of the School Council including staff representatives Crystal Ambelas, Karen Jackson, Monika Hackworthy, Renee DeBono and parent representatives Carly Marriner, Lucia Storrar, Muhammad Kamran, Rachel Morgan, Rohan Marriner, Christian Anderson, Manika Sirohi and myself, Melanie Kelty.

The office bearers this year are as follows:

President – Melanie Kelty

Vice-President – Rachel Morgan

Treasurer – Carly Marriner

If you have any questions for these councillors please do not hesitate to make contact with them.

During the last meeting discussions were held regarding the subcommittees that the school currently has running. The subcommittees and chair people for 2021 are as follows:

Finance – Carly Marriner

Parents and Friends – Sarah Jarman

Building and Grounds – Carly Marriner

Education – Brooke Gillis

Uniform – Carly Marriner

Policies – Chair to be advised

These sub committees are made up of staff, councillors, students and parents so we are able to have vast knowledge and experience on our committees. If you are interested in becoming a member of any of these committees, please contact the office to find out more information.

Other key points discussed at the previous meetings included:

  • the Rugby tops will no longer be for sale as part of the school uniform, as they have now been replaced with the pullovers.
  • the data collected from the 2020 Student Attitudes to School survey that was completed by students late last year. This data informs teachers, Principals and councillors of student opinions about Brookside College and school in general. This data is vital in identifying what students need to better their educational experience, as well as informing the school of what we do well and what can be done better.

That’s it from me this newsletter. I will keep you all posted on what is happening in and around Brookside College throughout the year.
