Student Wellbeing

Bounce term 1 2021

The Iron Armour Academy created “The BOUNCE Resilience Programme”. BOUNCE is an 8-week wellbeing programme with an objective of building resilience and provide participants with the ability to “bounce” back from adversity in life. The programme was provided to a group of students from years 7, 8 and 9 by facilitators Chris and Rochell Aho. The sessions focused on building teamwork, relationships, attitude, behaviour, decision-making and leadership. These sessions were filled with discussion and interactive group activities.

The programme encouraged the participants to achieve their personal goals in all settings - academic, home and community. BOUNCE provided an inclusive, relatable and supportive platform for the students to build and develop personal awareness to help themselves, be a support to their peers, their family and their community. The wellbeing team have been privileged to observe the growth and change of the students and to see them show up every week being respectful and supportive whilst building stronger relationships with one

another and the group facilitators. Congratulations!

The feedback received from two of the students in the group demonstrates just how valuable an experience like BOUNCE is to our Brookside youth:

“I found it easier to connect to each other.  It was fun because you could share your life with others. It gave me more determination and to know who I am to work hard to make something happen. We shared our personal lives and realised it wasn’t that different from others. Chris put himself in our shoes. I am now training more and running more. I give him 10 stars out of 5”!

“It was helpful and now I can see things clearer and can manage time better. It’s about preparing yourself and not relying on others. I submit my homework on time now. BOUNCE has helped me a lot and I really stepped out of my comfort zone. Chris and Rochell are like second parents - my school parents.  I give them a 6 out of 5 stars”!
