WHERE CHILDREN LOVE TO BE

ART NEWS

Hello SMPPS community! Miss Michael here. It has been so wonderful settling in, getting creative and teaching your wonderful children.

What we have been up to so far:

Preps!

The beautiful preps started Art this term and are enthusiastically learning about colour theory. This includes learning about the colour wheel – primary and secondary colours, warm, cool and complimentary colours. This week we are getting our hands dirty, experimenting with mixing colours using pastel, paint, chalk and pencil.

1/2s!

Grade 1 and 2s have been learning different paper skills as you may have seen in our window display of their ‘Paper trees’. We have learnt about colour significance and designed ‘Emotional monsters’, using colour to communicate emotion. They are awesome! Have a sneak peek into the Art room to see some. Just be careful those red, angry monsters don’t get you! Later this term students will be working collaboratively to make a permanent decorative structure for our beautiful art room.

3/4s!

You may have seen our grade 3/4s gorgeous mandalas in our display window out the front of the Art house. They worked really hard on these and showed a strong growth mindset whilst working on their radial symmetry. 3/4s also began looking into Japanese Art in the form of creating Koi Fish watercolour paintings.

5/6s!

Grade 5/6s have been a wonderfully eager and committed group of students to work with. Some of them advocated for a lunchtime Art Club and have succeeded! Art Club participants will be invited shortly to participate in designing a pattern for a plant box made from a recycled filing cabinet. Details for Art Club are below. Also, be on the look out for 5/6s Manga comics to be displayed soon.

A FEW THINGS TO KNOW:

  • I work Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
  • Art Club has begun Wednesdays at lunch time for Multi Age students only.
  • This year we will have an Art Show later in the year – get excited!
  • If not already, check out grade 3/4s mandala art in our Art Houses’ display window.
  • I am looking for donated art supplies. Most items you can find around the house. I would love your help. The drop box for donations is out the front of the office.
