Principal's Message

By Jenny Hassett

Welcome back

Welcome back everyone. I hope all families had a restful and enjoyable break. It was really great weather so hopefully, lots of outdoor activities were undertaken. Second term is a very busy term with lots of extracurricular activities happening so please check COMPASS for constant updates and permission documentation. A reminder that all incursions and excursions close one week before the event.

Naplan

Our Year 3 & 5 students will be taking part in the National Assessment Program, NAPLAN beginning on Tuesday, May 11th and finishing on Thursday 13th May. Each day the children will be required to complete tests over a range of learning areas including Reading, Writing, Numeracy and Language Conventions. Every child approaches these tests differently with some handling the situation well and others finding it very challenging. We ask that you support your child by not placing any undue pressure on them to perform. Our teachers are doing a marvellous job preparing the children for this experience and hopefully, this preparation will support the children in their efforts.   If you feel your child needs to be exempt from this testing program please contact me for further information. It’s important to remember that NAPLAN results provide a snapshot in time and is not necessarily the only indicator of a student’s future success.

Mothers Day Stall

On Thursday 6th May we will hold our annual Mother's Day Stall. All items will be priced at $5 each.  On this day we will also organise a stall to be held at the Batesford Campus.

Athletics Day

On Tuesday 27th April we will be conducting our annual Athletics Day at Goldsworthy Reserve for the students in Grades 3-6. Hopefully, the weather will be kind to us so we can enjoy the day. Please check COMPASS for all additional information.

CSEF

A reminder to families who have a current Health Care card that they can apply for Camp, Sports and Excursion Funding. If you have this, please be sure to tick the 'Pay with CSEF' function when approving activities through the Compass Portal.

Excursion Deadlines

Reminder to parents that permission forms for Excursions/Incursions will be listed on COMPASS at least 3 weeks before an event. Parents have 2 weeks to complete the permission documentation and pay for the excursion. After the two week payment period the excursion/incursion will be closed. This will allow time for buses to be confirmed, teachers to be allocated to excursions, food to be ordered etc. Please note we cannot accept permission forms and payment after the 2 week period.

Application for Year 7 Placement

Applications for Year 7 Placements are to be completed by parents/carers of all Year 6 students transitioning to a government secondary school for Year 7 in 2022.

These Application forms must be returned by Friday 14th May.

Foundation Enrolments 2022

If you have a child who will commence Prep in 2022 please contact the Office as soon as possible to obtain an enrolment form. We have a large number of prospective parents who are trying to secure a place in our school. It would be extremely helpful to our planning if you could assist us in this matter.

Term1 Newsletters and Assemblies

This term newsletters will be released and assemblies will be held each odd week of term beginning this week. Our student led assembly this week, Friday 23rd (2:50pm start), will feature Stars of the Week Awards, REACH Award winners for March and a special commemoration will be included to recognise ANZAC Day.  To access this assembly please click the embedded link below.:

 Retiring

After a number of years Bruce, our gardener and maintenance man has decided to retire. Bruce has been a valuable member of our staff for many years and is now ready to "Stop and Smell the Roses". I believe he has big plans to caravan around the country and maybe build a new house- all sounds very exciting. We thank Bruce sincerely for all his dedicated work to improving our grounds and wish Bruce and his wife, Shirley, every happiness as they start their new adventures.

We are also losing one of our dedicated and enthusiastic ES staff who has been with us for over 10 years. Jenae Mansfield has decided that she needs to support the family business which is expanding rapidly. We wish her all the best in her new adventure and thank her for the long term commitment to improving the lives of our students.

Good luck to both Bruce and Jenae we will miss you both.
