English Faculty News

The English Faculty has begun Term 2 at full speed. There are a variety of events that are occurring this term that we are proud to be a part of and are looking for student involvement.

Bell Shakespeare

On Wednesday 21 April, Molong Central School hosted the Bell Shakespeare Players. They performed a production called 'Just Romeo and Juliet' for students in Year 5 and 6. It was about 3 teenagers who were rehearsing a performance of Romeo and Juliet and as a result learn all about the play and its characters as they go.

They then transformed the School Hall into the world of Verona when they performed 'Such Sweet Sorrow' for Year 9 and 10 students. In this performance the players acted out and explained the key elements of the play Romeo and Juliet. The players used a mixture of the Shakespearean text and modern-day English to help the audience understand what was happening in the play. There was even a special guest appearance by our very own Mr Carver, as he took on the role of the Prince. It was wonderful to see the students so engaged in the play and the performances by the actors.

Debating

The 2021 Debating season is about to get underway. We have a team in Years 7/8 coached by Mrs Healey and a team in Years 9/10 coached by Mrs Vardanega. The first debates are occurring in early May for the Year 9 and 10 team. We are debating against Bathurst High, Kelso High and Henry Lawson High.

We wish both teams the best of luck in their debating endeavours.

Secondary Drama Club

Our wonderful and enthusiastic Mr Carver is launching the Molong Drama Club. He will be holding meetings at lunchtime. Students will be involved in learning a large number of Drama skills. Activities will include mime, improvisation and Theatresports. All students are welcome to attend, especially if you have an interest in, or enjoy, performing. It will be on a Tuesday lunch time in the Hall.
