It’s great to come back to Term 2 at Molong Central School. I really need to thank
Scott Taprell, Kevin Costa and Matt Sugden for relieving in positions whist I was away. Having come back to an organised and settled school, I know they have done a fabulous job.
Our students have experienced many opportunities since the start of the term, commencing with The Bell Shakespeare Company presenting to our English students in Week 1.
The Primary and Secondary Athletics carnival saw many participants enjoy a fabulous day of competition with many students and qualifying for district and regional events.
Last week our students in the Year 9 Self-Select class experienced many aspects of what living and studying in a major city would feel like. Starting with a train ride to Central Station and a guided tour of Sydney University and The University of Technology, our students returned excited by options available to them in the future. I am looking forward to creating additional learning experiences this Year 9 group will follow in the future and I am sure that each individual will thrive as they continue working towards excellence.
It was great to be back addressing the Primary Assembly and presenting awards for academic and sporting achievements. Our students have many opportunities and are fortunate to be supported by dedicated staff who endeavour to prepare them for extracurricular opportunities.
Last Monday the P&C met in the Wellbeing Hub and this proved to be a fabulous environment for our meeting. We also provided a ZOOM opportunity and will continue to do so for future meetings. I would encourage parents who are interested in finding out more about what is happening in the school to attend these meetings. It is a great opportunity to connect with other parents and carers as well, especially if you are new to our school community.
I have also noticed our Year 12 students have settled into their studies after getting their senior schooling off to a less than ideal start during 2020. There are numerous opportunities for our students to extend themselves in their studies that will be presented to them over upcoming weeks and I can already see these opportunities benefitting students preparing for their Higher School Certificate.
NAPLAN will be upon us next week and our students have been preparing to take the tests online. It is one test on one day we encourage all students to participating as the results provide valuable information to teachers which can support further improvements in learning. Below is a link to information that parents may find useful in supporting their child during NAPLAN.
COVID Intensive Learning Support has also been a feature of the term for many students, with testing identifying students who have fallen behind their expected growth, channelled into small group tuition during school hours. If your child is identified as requiring support, you will have received a letter indicating additional learning opportunities. If you require any additional information about the COVID Intensive Learning Support opportunities for students at Molong Central School please contact Audrey Brown in the Primary or Scott Taprell in the Secondary.
