YEAR 10 RYPEN CAMP

Brighton Secondary College is very fortunate to have the support of Brighton Rotary who offer our students many opportunities throughout the year.

This term Brighton Rotary kindly sponsored 4 of our Year 10 students (Pippa, Annabelle, Oliver and Aviv) to attend the RYPEN camp on Friday 26th- Sun 28th March - a weekend camp designed to help students develop their potential through a mixture of lecture style sessions and adventure-based learning.

It aims to communicate a series of ideas, problems and social experiences that will assist them in forming their own values. Students are encouraged to learn to understand themselves and others, and manage their relationships, lives, work and learning more effectively.

Thank you to Brighton Rotary, especially Jo Kwok ( Brighton Rotary President) for giving our Year 10 students this wonderful opportunity.

Pippa’s reflections:

The RYPEN camp changed me, it gave me a new outlook on life, from learning about poverty to doing fun activities like the flying fox and trust-building exercises when going through the maze.

Throughout this camp, I have made lifelong friends and faced many challenges.

We were lucky to have a guest speaker attend, Alex,  in which we had discussions about our armour and the way we hide our-self. It followed on to talking about showing our armour and creating a judgemental-free zone.

I built on my confidence, I faced my fears, and my life was changed.

I would like to thank the district of 9800 and the Rotary Club of Brighton for sponsoring us to go on the 2021 Rypen weekend camp.
